Overplanning
It’s one thing to not plan at all, but it’s a whole ‘nother thing to plan too much! If you put too much on your plate each day of your trip, you might end up being overwhelmed and exhausted. In fact, you run the risk of missing out on a lot by overplanning.
Toy Story Land
One reader noted that because they overplanned and had too many dining reservations, “everything was on time constraint and we missed so much” while another reader said that ultimately, “you can’t do it all in xx days.” In a way, you have to accept that you won’t be able to do it all, even if you plan out every second of your trip, and just focus on your top priorities.
Bringing the Wrong People With You
This one might seem a little bit harsh, but bringing the wrong people with you to Disney World can be a HUGE mistake according to our readers. If you bring someone with you that doesn’t enjoy theme parks or crowds and just really isn’t into Disney, it can be a waste of time and money for you and for the other person.

A lot of readers talked about the mistake of bringing the wrong person with them and one reader, in particular, said “going to Disney with others that don’t appreciate it as much as I do.”
Going at the Wrong Time of Year
This one is really about personal taste, but some times of the year might not be the best time to go to Disney World. When we heard back from our readers, two of the trouble spots during the year were summertime and the holidays! The summertime was an issue for some people because of the heat and July 4th crowds, and the holidays were an issue for the crowds.
The Holidays in Hollywood Studios
One reader noted their biggest mistake was “going to Magic Kingdom on Christmas Day and for fireworks on July 4th” while another reader said “we will never ever go the week between Christmas and New Years. We could only get on maybe 2 or three rides each day. It was so packed it was hard to get around and just wall to wall people. Lesson learned.”
Wearing the Wrong Shoes
Yes, shoes. Disney World veterans know that proper footwear is EVERYTHING when it comes to having a good trip. There are two big footwear mistakes you can make: wearing new shoes or wearing the wrong shoes for your plans that day. Remember that Disney World is a walking-intensive place, which means you really want those shoes to be comfy.
Animal Kingdom
One reader shared this horror story about wearing new shoes: “I wore brand new sneakers and had no other shoes with me. I had so many blisters, even between my toes. And we were there for 12 days!! I was in agony the whole trip.” Meanwhile, another reader simply said “wearing flip flops in Epcot” was their mistake.
