Update On the Two Storms That Could Hit Disney World

It’s hurricane season right now, and we’ve been keeping an eye out for any storms that might reach Disney World.

In addition to Tropical Depression Fred, Tropical Storm Grace has also been forming in the Atlantic. Here’s the latest update on how both storms are progressing.

The Orlando Sentinel has reported that Tropical Depression Fred is currently skirting the coast of Cuba, and its expected path now takes it farther west into the Gulf of Mexico and away from mainland Florida. According to meteorologist Chris Gilson, that means the impact to Central Florida will likely be less than originally projected, “We’re looking at some periodic rain, quite a bit of clouds, and some breezy conditions.”

At 8AM on Saturday, Fred was 125 miles south-southwest of Key West with maximum sustained winds at 35 mph. The storm should pass west of the Florida Keys on Saturday and approach the Gulf Coast with landfall by Monday night.

Following behind Fred, Puerto Rico is now under a tropical storm warning as Tropical Storm Grace approaches the Caribbean. This system could follow Fred’s path near the Greater Antilles into next week. There is still some uncertainty on both how strong the system could get over the next week and the path it will follow.

We’ll continue to keep an eye out for updates on both storms and the impact they could have on Central Florida, so stay tuned for the latest news.
