PHOTOS: Can YOU Spot the Progress on Disney World’s Latest Construction Projects?
Welcome back DFB friends — it’s that time of the week where we take a look at all the construction progress that has been made around Disney World!
Last week we took a look at SEVEN different projects that could be close to wrapping up soon, and today we’ve got a peek at even more construction going on at Disney’s upcoming attractions, shows, and more! So, let’s take a look, shall we?
Magic Kingdom
TRON: Lightcycle Run
It’s been a few weeks since we’ve seen some noteworthy progress over at the newest attraction coming to Magic Kingdom — TRON: Lightcycle Run. But, this week we noticed that there was some new scaffolding and crews were working up at the top of one of the canopies near the building.
Keep in mind that this is both an indoor and an outdoor attraction, so there’s a whole lot of construction that we aren’t seeing. But, from the outside looking in, it could be sometime before we’re riding on a light cycle.
EPCOT
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
We also hopped on the monorail to EPCOT to see if we could spot any progress on the upcoming roller coaster, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and it turns out that we did! The last time we got a birds-eye view we saw only the beginnings of the entrance to the attraction…
…but now there’s concrete! This area will one day feature a giant Xandarian ship where the dirt is outlined by a triangle and we can’t wait to see how that turns out.
Much like TRON: Lightcycle Run, Disney has not yet shared an update on when the attraction could open in the park, but we’re keeping an eye out for updates!
Future World
On our ride around EPCOT in the monorail, we also checked in on the progress on the new “neighborhood” called World Celebration at the center of Future World. Not much has changed here since we last got a peek behind the construction walls, but a very small portion of the area will open soon for the new Creations Shop and Club Cool.
Other things that will someday be found here include new gardens, fountain, walk-through attraction, and Walt Disney statue of Walt Disney.
We also got a sneak peek at Club Cool this week!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Pandora — The World of Avatar
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we stumbled upon some mystery construction walls on our walk through Pandora — The World of Avatar.
We’re not sure what’s going on behind these, but we’ll be sure to let you know if we learn anything about it.
Discover River Amphitheater
And, we spotted construction crews out on the platform that popped up a few weeks ago near the Discovery River Amphitheater. The work is for the brand new daytime show coming to Animal Kingdom for the Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary celebrations called Disney KiteTails.
Disney revealed earlier this summer that the new show will feature performers flying windcatchers and kites in the theater and massive three-dimensional kites in the shapes of Disney characters (like Simba, Zazu, Baloo, and King Louie) out over the water. It will debut on October 1st, so we’ll keep an eye out for more progress here in the coming weeks!

Disney Resorts
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort
But, it’s not just the parks that are getting spruced up in advance of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary — the resorts are too! Over at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, we noticed that a huge tarp had been added along the length of some walkways.
It’s not clear what Disney is doing behind the scenes here, but we’ll keep an eye out for what updates may have taken place when these come down.
Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort
At Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort the check-in area is receiving some refurbishments, so a portion of the lobby has construction walls and tarp up.
Guests are still able to check in here though and there is plenty of space to navigate around the work being done.
Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
We’ve also been keeping track of the construction progress going on at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and this week there was still lots of scaffolding up around the exterior of the building with construction crews actively at work.
Disney hasn’t shared official details about what kind of work they’re doing here, but when we last spoke with a Cast Member, they believed that it was simply routine maintenance on balconies and the exterior of the hotel.
Disney’s BoardWalk Inn
And, Disney’s BoardWalk Inn is also getting some sprucing up for the season!
Construction walls had popped up outside of the hotel and from up above we could see that crews were working on replacing the pebble walkways.
Disney’s BoardWalk
It seemed that there was something going on across the whole length of Disney’s BoardWalk when we visited and we also spotted barricades up around the bike rentals area.
There was still plenty of room to walk around the BoardWalk, though currently, the bike rentals are unavailable.
Well, that’s it for all the construction progress we spotted in the parks and resorts this week! Of course, we’ll continue to keep an eye out for more changes and updates going on around Disney World, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for the latest!
