An Ultimate Guide to the BOO Bash Halloween Event in Disney World

It may only be August, but the Halloween season has started in Disney World!

Time for Boo Bash!

While Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has been canceled for 2021, the NEW Disney After Hours BOO Bash event will still fill Magic Kingdom with spooky spirit! Recently, the very first BOO Bash took place and we took you along with us to see all the snacks, decorations, and more. Today we’re sharing a complete guide to the event so you know what to expect, how to plan, and what you don’t want to miss!

Hours, Dates, and General Information

BOO Bash will take place in Magic Kingdom on select nights from August 10th, 2021 through October 31st, 2021. The event takes place from 9:30PM to 12:30AM on select nights in August and September. On most other nights in September and October, the event starts at 9:00PM and runs through midnight.

Main Street pumpkins

This is a separate ticketed event. That means you will need to purchase a separate ticket in order to enjoy the event’s festivities — your traditional Magic Kingdom ticket will not allow you to stay in the park and enjoy the party’s offerings once the After Hours event begins. You only need a ticket to BOO Bash to attend — you do not need a regular theme park ticket to Magic Kingdom to enjoy BOO Bash and you do not need a Park Pass reservation.

Main Street, U.S.A. is Ready for Halloween!

Tickets are currently available online, but many dates have already sold out. If you haven’t already purchased your tickets you’ll want to do so quickly! Tickets are priced between $129 and $199 per adult or child, depending on the event date. Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members can get a $10 discount on ticket dates in August and September.

Note that When we visited BOO Bash on its opening night (which appeared to be sold out online), we did notice that Disney was still selling tickets for the event, so that’s something to be on the lookout for.

Tickets Are Available!

While the event itself may not start until 9:00PM or 9:30PM (depending on the day), guests with a BOO Bash ticket will be able to enter Magic Kingdom as early as 7:00PM on their event night and enjoy some rides, catch the Magic Kingdom fireworks, and more from that point on.

Arrival

When you arrive at Magic Kingdom for the event, be sure to check-in at the Main Entrance. Check-in begins at 7PM.

Time to Check In

If you’re already inside of Magic Kingdom ahead of the 7PM check-in time, you can check in near Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin…

Wristband Distribution

…or Tortuga Tavern.

Another Check In Spot

When you check-in, you will receive a wristband which helps identify you as a participant in the After Hours event.

Once the park closes for regular guests and the After Hours event officially begins, all entrances to the attractions will close to those who do not have an After Hours ticket.

During your time at BOO Bash, don’t forget to pick up an event map.

A Peek at the Boo Bash Map

The map can be incredibly useful during your time there, plus it’s a fun, free souvenir!

Merchandise

During BOO Bash, guests are able to do a little bit shopping for spooktacular souvenirs. We did not, however, spot any BOO Bash-exclusive or BOO Bash-themed souvenirs during our time in the park on the first night of the event.

Some Spooky Merchandise

Instead, the souvenirs that were available were the regular Halloween Disney items we’ve seen available to all guests.

Entertainment

Ready for some frighteningly fun entertainment? Boo Bash has a few frighteningly fun things for guests to enjoy.

Cadaver Dans, a Dance Party, and Fireworks

First, in Frontierland, you’ll find the Cadaver Dans, who have made a special comeback from the dead!

Serenade us, Dans!

Be sure to check the map for their show times — you can see them listed below.

Over in Tomorrowland, you’ll get to enjoy a DJ Dance Party throughout the event.

There is a DJ over there spinning some dancing tunes for the whole family to enjoy.

Plus, there are lots of fun projections on the floor to see!

GOURDeous!

So if you’re in the mood to groove, be sure to head over there and check it out.

Note that there are NO specialty, Halloween fireworks during BOO Bash. Instead, if you enter the park a bit early, you’ll be able to catch Magic Kingdom’s Happily Ever After fireworks at its regular showtime (8:45PM during the night we were there).

Fireworks Time

Keep in mind that Happily Ever After will be going away later this year and will ultimately be replaced by the new Disney Enchantment fireworks spectacular starting on October 1st.

Cavalcades

While there’s no traditional “Boo to You” Halloween parade like what many guests have been used to from Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, guests at BOO Bash do get to watch various Halloween-themed cavalcades!

Specifically, there are 3 cavalcades and one special float appearance. There’s the Mickey’s Happy Halloween Cavalcade featuring Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, and more dressed in their Halloween best.

Mickey Cavalcade

There’s also the Disney Villains Halloween Cavalcade where you’ll get to see some serious Disney baddies like Dr. Facilier, the Queen of Hearts, and Jafar.

Watch out for these two!

Nightmare Before Christmas fans won’t want to miss Jack’s Nightmare Cavalcade. This cavalcade features the Pumpkin King himself, as well as Sally and Oogie Boogie.

Please make way for a very special guy!

And finally, guests at Boo Bash can see Maleficent take to the streets in the form of a fire-breathing dragon in Maleficent’s Fiery Prowl! Note that during our time at the event, the Maleficent dragon was not breathing any fire.

Maleficent’s Fiery Prowl

There are set times for these cavalcades displayed in the guide map so you can plan to be in a good spot to watch them, but just keep in mind that these times are subject to change.

Click here to see photos, videos, and more details about the cavalcades you can enjoy at BOO Bash!

Characters

In-between dancing to Halloween tunes and riding your favorite attractions, you can stop by a number of spots around the park to say “hello” to some special characters!

Specifically, during BOO Bash you can see Goofy dressed as a pirate…

Hey Goof!!

…Chip ‘n’ Dale…

Chip & Dale

…Miss Carlotta, Miss Renatta, and Broome the Butler at the Haunted Mansion…

So spooky!

…Foulfellow and Gideon

Gideon and Honest John

Pooh

Buzz buzz!

Piglet

SO CUTE!

Eeyore

Don’t be so sad, buddy!

…and Tigger, too!

Looks like Goofy has some competition!

Be sure to stop by Crystal Palace, the Frontierland Balcony, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and Pinocchio Village Haus to get a look at these characters.

Costumes

During BOO Bash, guests of all ages are able to dress up in their favorite costumes!

AMUCK!

We saw guests in all kinds of awesome costumes throughout the night!

Carl would be proud!

Note that Disney does have some specific guidelines when it comes to wearing costumes for BOO Bash. You can see their guidelines below.

Just be sure your costumes meet those rules before you attend.

But, guests weren’t the only ones dressing up! During Boo Bash, we spotted Cast Members in their very best Halloween looks!

Cast Members

The Cast Members at the Haunted Mansion were looking particularly frightening (in a great way).

Can we please pet your dogs?

And they even brought their ghost pups out to play!

Because capacity for this event is limited, it means you should be able to get on many of these rides with shorter waits than what you would normally experience. More on the crowds in a second!

Click here to see more about the rides you can hop on at Boo Bash!

Crowds & Wait Times

Speaking of crowds, let’s talk a bit about the crowds we saw during BOO Bash’s opening night. When we first arrived at Magic Kingdom around 7PM, there were some pretty big crowds.

A Look at the Crowds

There were especially large crowds right around the time the fireworks began. Keep in mind, however, that at that point regular Magic Kingdom day guests were still in the park.

Once the event began at 9:30PM, crowds started to thin out throughout the park.

Low Crowd Levels Here

There was some crowding near specific areas — like where characters were interacting with guests (from a distance) in their Halloween costumes.

How could you not LOVE Piglet?!

But, in most other areas of the park crowds thinned out…

Crowd levels are perfect!

…and stayed very low throughout the event!

Click here to see more photos and details about the crowds in the park on Boo Bash’s opening night!

In terms of wait times, they reflected the changing crowd levels from before the After Hours event officially started to once the event was underway. Once the party started, pretty much everything had a low (or lower than average) wait time!

©Disney Wait times at 12AM

Near the end of the night, you could hop on quite a few rides with just a 5 minute wait or no wait at all!

Click here to see a full break-down of the wait times during Boo Bash!

Food

What’s a Disney event without some good food?! During BOO Bash, certain items are included, while others can be purchased.

Included Items

In terms of included items, Boo Bash guests can go trick-or-treating throughout the park and get all kinds of candy from Mars Wrigley!

Trick-or-Treat

Don’t forget to grab your complimentary bag to hold all of your tasty treats!

Treat Bag!

It features Muppets Haunted Mansion on one side, and Encanto on the other!

Treats!

There are treat locations in various spots throughout the park, including Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, Pete’s Silly Sideshow, Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor, and more.

There are also allergy-free options, so be sure to ask about those.

Allergy Friendly Treats for All!

The allergy-friendly center is available in Liberty Square. You can pick up a bag there and select the allergy-friendly offerings you’d like.

Allergy Friendly Center

Keep in mind that at select other spots you may be provided with a token that you can then redeem for allergy-friendly items.

Aside from the candy, your admission to BOO Bash also includes select complimentary drinks, popcorn, and ice cream novelties from snack carts throughout Magic Kingdom.

Complimentary Snacks

Yes, that means you can have all the Mickey’s Premium Ice Cream Bars your heart desires!

Specialty Items

In addition to the included snacks, you’ll be able to grab select specialty menu items at some locations in Magic Kingdom.

If you’re looking for a specially themed frozen drink, you can grab the Apple Ginger Dale Frozen Drink.

This drink is made of Frozen Apple Cider mixed with Ginger Ale, topped with Whipped Cream and chopped TWIX Cookie Bars.

Also at Golden Oak Outpost is the Mocha Chocolate Chip Frozen Drink. This is Frozen Mocha topped with Whipped Cream, Chocolate Chips, and a Sugar Acorn. If you want something sweet to eat, there is the Maleficent Churro!

Again, keep in mind that these items are available to purchase and are not included in the price of your ticket.

Decor, Music, and More

While select Halloween decorations are visible in Magic Kingdom during the day, guests at BOO Bash can enjoy special decor, lighting, and music to help set the spooky tone! There were a number of projections throughout the park, but especially over in Tomorrowland on the rocks…

Spooktacular!

…and the floor!

Watch out for spiders…

In terms of special lighting, you’ll want to keep a close eye on Cinderella Castle. During the After Hours event, the Castle takes on a ghostly look!

Cinderella Castle

There is also Halloween-themed music playing through the park.

Tips & Tricks

Of course, we’ve got to share a few tips & tricks to help you make your BOO Bash experience a total success! First tip — if you’re REALLY into getting candy, stop by the trick-or-treat locations near the end of the night. During our visit, the Cast Members were truly trying to get rid of their candy toward the end of the night so we were able to get a WHOLE LOT of treats all at one time!

So Much Candy!

Next tip, some trick-or-treating spots are more centrally located, but others are a bit more hidden. If you want to grab lots of candy without any wait at all, check out some of those more out-of-the-way spots. We found the trick-or-treat area by Pete’s Silly Sideshow to be especially empty during our trip!

No people and lots of candy. It’s perfect.

Don’t forget that you can enter the park starting at 7PM on the night you have tickets for BOO Bash, which gives you more time in the park to enjoy certain things. But, also keep in mind that the After Hours Event itself (meaning the projections, candy, etc.) won’t start until 9PM or 9:30PM (depending on the night).

You’re jokin’, you’re jokin’, I can’t believe my eyes!

Keep an eye on those wait times — once the party got underway and the regular crowds left the park, the wait times started dropping significantly for rides all throughout the park (including some really popular ones). Toward the end of the night, many had wait times of just 5 minutes.

5-10 minute waits!

Take a look at the guide map especially when it comes to show times. The guide map lists the cavalcade times, so if it’s really important for you to catch those, be sure to look at the times and plan ahead!

And remember that while many rides will be open during BOO Bash, some will NOT be. Check ahead of time to see if your favorite ride will be open during the event.

Best view in the Kingdom!
