5 Weird Things That Will Get You Kicked Out of Disney World
Disney World is the Most Magical Place on Earth, but you know what ISN’T magical? Getting kicked out or, gulp, banned!
Obviously, most visitors to Disney World have an easy time following the rules and not causing trouble, but apparently, there are enough bad eggs to merit Disney instating specific (and WEIRD) rules that, when broken, will require removal from the parks.
We gotta admit, it’s pretty FASCINATING to delve into Disney World’s rules and regulations regarding what gets guests in trouble. Especially since Disney regularly comes up with NEW ways to get kicked out!
In the past, we’ve talked about some of the MOST interesting ways to get kicked out, but let’s examine a few rules that might seem obvious to some, but are definitely weird!
Swimming in Places Where You Definitely Shouldn’t
When it comes to swimming at Disney World, the general rule of thumb is that resort pools are ok… everything else is NOT.
Back in the day, swimming was allowed and even encouraged in the waters of Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake, but this hasn’t been the case for a long time now. Beyond the obvious signs prohibiting swimming at resort beaches, this rule also applies to any other body of water in the parks, from the Cinderella Castle moat in Magic Kingdom to Echo Lake in Hollywood Studios. And don’t even THINK about cooling off in the Miss Piggy fountain in Grand Avenue! It’s also good to note that you can really own swim at a resort pool where you are a guest — no pool hopping, unless otherwise stated.
Leaving a Ride to Explore an Attraction
As tempting as it may be to exit a slow-moving ride mid-attraction to explore behind-the-scenes, this is definitely a no-no!
This is particularly relevant on rides like The Haunted Mansion, where you could feasibly easily exit the ride vehicle to wander the halls or gardens. Or as a recent guest did in EPCOT, leap from the boat to grab a cucumber on Living with the Land… . There’s a reason they constantly tell you to “keep hands, arms, feet, and legs inside the vehicle at all times.”
Showing Inappropriate Tattoos
Disney World has made HUGE strides with its tattoo policies for Cast Members of late, but there are still limits.
Cast Members and guests alike can certainly show their tattoos, just as long as they’re not offensive or inappropriate. Keep it G-rated and friendly, or risk being evicted from the parks! This also applies to inappropriate (or too revealing) attire btw! Save that adult-only racy t-shirt for a day at home!
Refusing to Give Up Your Selfie Stick
Disney World famously banned selfie sticks, and they’re holding fast to that rule.
Cast Members are instructed to take selfie sticks from guests who sneak them in, but if a guest REFUSES to give up their contraption, it’s grounds for removal from the parks! Seriously, there are PLENTY of great photo options at Disney World. Do you really NEED a selfie stick that bad?!
Dressing Up As a Character
In order to preserve the magic, Disney World is VERY strict about not letting guests come dressed up as characters. It wouldn’t be great to have a bunch of rogue Snow Whites wandering around Magic Kingdom, would it? Just think of the confusion! We’ve actually seen guests in full princess garb get past security though. Typically Cast Members will approach the individual and ask them to leave when this happens.
So aside from specific events or Dapper Days, where Disney-inspired ensembles are allowed, you’d best leave your Peter Pan cosplay at home.
At the end of the day, as long as you come to Disney World with good intentions and good behavior (and you resist the urge to take a dip in World Showcase Lagoon), you have nothing to worry about!
