PHOTOS: See the Progress on 10 (!!) Construction Projects in Disney World!

When you’re visiting Disney World, you’re bound to run into a construction project or two. That’s why we keep you up to date with the latest progress here at DFB!

Cinderella Castle

And, this week, we spotted a lot of progress on a major upcoming attraction in Magic Kingdom, more painting both inside and outside of the parks, and even saw one construction project wrap up in EPCOT. So, let’s take a look!

Magic Kingdom

TRON: Lightcycle Run

Earlier this year, we could spot very little progress being made on Disney’s upcoming roller coaster, TRON: Lightcycle Run (which will be partially indoors and outdoors) in Magic Kingdom. But, recently we’ve seen a lot of work being done on the exterior! Last week, we started to see some blue netting going up on the canopy, and we saw more this week!

More netting going up early this week

The blue area slowly expanded, and, by the end of the week, one of the canopies was almost completely covered.

One of the canopies was almost entirely covered by the end of the week!

If that’s not enough to convince you that some progress is being made, we even noticed that the GIANT crane that has been in the construction area for almost as long as we can remember is starting to come down.

TRON Construction

We still don’t have an opening date for the ride from Disney, but we may be getting closer!

Tomorrowland

Disney has also been repaving some of the concrete floor areas in Tomorrowland, and we noticed that another portion of the bridge was blocked off this week.

Luckily, there was still plenty of room to move around.

Be Our Guest Restaurant

Back in New Fantasyland, the Beast’s castle has received a fresh coat of paint above Be Our Guest Restaurant. The change isn’t too noticeable, but it does give it a bit more of a colorful boost!

Getting some repainting done!

This is one of many locations we’ve been repainted recently in Disney World as they prepare for the 50th Anniversary celebrations.

Big Top Souvenirs

Another big change in Magic Kingdom was over at Big Top Souvenirs. The merchandise (and snack) location has been closed on and off throughout the year, and it doesn’t look like it will be opening soon as the Big Top Souvenirs sign has been removed from the main entrance.

Big Top sign missing!

As a reminder, here’s what used to be there.

What used to be there!

The shop has gotten a few upgrades recently (including new flooring), so we’re anticipating that this is just another update before Disney officially reopens it for guests. Though, for now, Disney has not shared when that could be.

Splash Mountain

Earlier this year, Disney announced that Splash Mountain would be re-themed to the movie Princess and the Frog, but we hadn’t seen much movement on the project. However, this week, a VERY large barricade arrived in the area just before the bridge that guests cross to enter the queue.

What’s going on here?

It could be related to the refurbishment coming to the attraction, or it could be something entirely different. For now, it’s just a mystery and we’ll be keeping an eye out for any updates!

Transportation and Ticketing Center

Just outside of Magic Kingdom, we’ve also been keeping track of the repainting that Disney is doing at the Transportation and Ticketing Center. We’ve seen as water fountains and signs get an update, and it looks like there’s more work underway!

Now, the purple paint in the waiting area leading up to the monorail platform is getting an update…

New paint!

…and the Resort Monorail sign is being painted to match the newly colored Express Monorail signage.

Look at that new color scheme!

The new colorway will match the theming for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary.

EPCOT

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Over at EPCOT, there’s another new roller coaster coming — Guardian’s of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind! We’ve started to see more progress on the exterior of the building, and this week we found even more with additional grey paneling added to the roof.

According to the concept art for the attraction, the building will have a grey color, so these may be the beginnings of the transformation.

Of course, there’s still quite a bit of work to be done before we can officially ride through space with the Marvel characters and the opening date remains TBD.

Italy Pavilion

And, more work is also being done around World Showcase! When we stopped by the Italy Pavilion, we noticed that the fountain (which is reminiscent of King Triton), was turned off and drained.

Where’s the water?

We see fountains drained around Disney World from time to time, but it normally isn’t too long before they’re back in action.

Morocco Pavilion

We also got to see one construction project completed at EPCOT over in the Morocco Pavilion! The bathrooms had been closed off for some time now, but they have reopened with a NEW look! Now, you can find additional details on the stall doors…

New door details

…and there’s new decorative tile above the sinks.

Other areas in the Morocco Pavilion remain closed off, but it was exciting to see one project come to a close (especially because it means less walking when you need to use the restroom!).

Canada Pavilion

And, we’re starting to see some changes in the Canada Pavilion! Early in the week, the theater show, Canada Far & Wide closed with no showtimes listed between June 27th to August 3rd. And, now all of the signage for it has been removed…

Where’s the sign?

…or covered up.

Keep in mind that the theater has been used as a Food & Wine Festival space in the past, so that may be the cause of the temporary closure with the festival starting on July 15th this year.

And, that’s a wrap on this week’s construction updates in Disney World! Be sure to catch us back here next week with more things you need to know for your next vacation!
