8 Things to Know About Disney World in June 2021
It’s official, we’ve made it to June! We’re getting into the hottest part of the year and we’re about to start seeing summertime crowds at Disney World.
If you’re heading to the parks this month, there are a lot of things you’re going to need to know, and today we’re sharing that list with you. Let’s dive right in!
The EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival is STILL Going On
Ah, the festival that never ends! (We’re kidding, we absolutely LOVE this festival and we’re glad we’ve had so much time to experience it!) The 2021 Flower & Garden Festival at EPCOT doesn’t end until July 5th, so we still have a whole month to enjoy it!
If you haven’t been yet and you’re visiting soon, make sure to check out our guides for what to eat, do, and experience around the festival before it ends. And besides all the activities at the fest, we love simply walking around and admiring the beautiful topiaries!
Here’s What You Need to Eat at This Year’s Festival!
Wildnerness Lodge is Reopening
Even though the DVC section of the resort has been open for a while, the main portion of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is reopening on June 6th.
And if you’d like to book a stay here, then you’ll be glad to know that the guest rooms were updated during the closure! There are new photos of the rooms on the Disney website and the new features are modern and luxurious while keeping that rustic charm that guests love.

A Popular Ride is Having a Refurb
Heading to Magic Kingdom this month? Well, you’ll want to note on your calendar that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is going under refurbishment for a week!
From June 7th-12th, the ride will be unavailable while it goes through some routine touch-ups. During its closure, you’ll still be able to enjoy the other Magic Kingdom mountains: Splash and Space!

Health and Safety Procedures Are Changing
We’ve seen a lot of updates to Disney World’s health and safety procedures lately — it seems like something is changing every week. Last month, temperature checks were phased out and then Disney shared that they would begin reducing physical distancing in the parks and resorts.
Also, there was a major mask policy change. Face coverings are now optional when in outdoor common areas, although they must still be worn indoors, on rides, in queues, and at attractions. We’ll continue to monitor any more updates, so stay tuned to DFB!

There’s a Lot of Construction Going On
Right now, Disney World is FULL of construction projects all over the place! EPCOT is basically one giant maze of construction walls as the park undergoes a full transformation, so be prepared to navigate Future World differently.
There are also several construction projects going on at resorts, most prominently at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Contemporary Resort where the rooms are getting updated. And at Magic Kingdom, you may notice some work happening in Tomorrowland for the TRON Lightcycle Run coaster!

Jungle Cruise is Mid-Makeover
If you’ve been following along with Disney news, then you likely know that the classic Jungle Cruise is getting a makeover on both coasts. While the Disneyland version is closed during the updates, the Magic Kingdom ride is remaining open through the makeover.
You may notice that some old scenes have been removed and new ones are being added in. Disney is also threading a common storyline throughout the ride and introducing new characters. We’ve been told that the changes will be complete this summer, although a specific date hasn’t been announced.
Here’s What You Need to Know About the Jungle Cruise Changes!
Another Character Meal is Returning
We’ve slowly seen restaurants reopening in the parks and resorts for a few months now and another character meal will be returning this month. Fans will soon be able to dine with Donald and friends again at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom!
The restaurant reopens on June 20th, and reservations became available on June 4th. You can see the full menus here.

Disney After Hours BOO Bash Tickets Go on Sale
And if you’re already preparing for Halloween, then you’ll be glad to know that BOO Bash tickets go on sale very soon! Disney Resort guests can purchase their tickets beginning June 8th and they go on sale for the general public beginning June 15th.
This hard-ticketed event is this year’s replacement for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. It’s going to be an altered experience than in years past, with shorter hours and some offerings modified. Ticket prices begin at $129 per adult, so don’t forget to set that aside in your budget if you are planning to attend.
