NEWS: It May Take “Several Months” For Florida Mask and Distancing Policies to Change
Disney World mask policies are constantly changing, and recently the rule about face masks during outdoor pictures has eased up a bit.

Recently, Mayor Demings commented on when the mask mandate could end in the state, and we recently got more information on when mask and social distancing rules may change in Florida.
Today during a press conference with Mayor Demings, the Mayor of Orange County, he explained that they “are continuing to evaluate data and develop our plan” regarding the removal of face mask and social distancing policies.

Although we recently learned that health and safety guidelines were expected to change soon, Mayor Demings now says “even with phasing, it’s going to likely be several months before you can see significant reduction in wearing facial coverings.”

While mask mandates might not look different for a few months, he continued to say that “what you may see sooner than later perhaps is the reduction of the social distancing requirements.” He stated several times that these decisions would be based on data and science.
Social Distancing Markers
As for a timeline on a change in mandates, Mayor Demings said “sometime probably summertime, mid-to-late summer, we should see where we’re able to really relax the facial coverings.”
There are three things that Mayor Demings mentioned that they are taking into consideration when deciding on the mandates: the recent increase in positive COVID-19 cases over the past 2 months, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine being paused, and the slight increase in hospitalizations.

Currently 30% of the population is vaccinated, however the Mayor stresses the need for everyone to do their part when it comes to the vaccine. He mentioned that 50% of the population should be vaccinated before they can significantly relax the mask mandate.
Mayor Demings stated that he will be meeting with medical professionals this week to discuss the mask mandate and what phasing should look like given the current circumstances.
