What Is It ACTUALLY Like to Buy Food in Disneyland Resort Right Now?

Last month, Southern California entered a new regional stay-at-home order which mandated the closure of seated dining, allowing only takeout or delivery options. For the Disneyland Resort, this meant the closure of all of their dining locations in Downtown Disney as well as Buena Vista Street. Not only that, but Disney doubled down and have temporarily banned all eating and drinking on property.

California Mandate Sign

Prior to this new mandate, you could remove your face mask to eat and drink so long as you were stationary and socially distanced, much like the current policy in Disney World. But with no eating or drinking allowed at all, what does it look like to actually purchase food in Disneyland right now?

Where can you buy food right now?

Despite the closure of all table service restaurants, many counter service locations with “to go” options have remained open, including Jamba Juice, Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen Express, Earl of Sandwich, and even Black Tap Craft Burgers & Shakes. Other counter service locations like Award Wieners, Starbucks, and all of the outdoor popcorn carts on Buena Vista Street are temporarily unavailable (you can, however, purchase souvenir popcorn buckets without the popcorn at this time).

Black Tap Craft Burgers & Shakes is currently open for take-out in Downtown Disney

In addition to those locations, Trolley Treats on Buena Vista Street and Marceline’s Confectionary in Downtown Disney have also remained open during the stay-at-home order, selling those delicious candy apples, Rice Krispie treats, and yes, even churro toffee, pre-packaged for guests to take home with them.

Signage reminding guests of the current regional mandate is everywhere throughout Downtown Disney and Buena Vista Street, especially in these two retail locations, where you can still purchase tons of pre-packaged goodies.

At this time, we are not sure how long the regional stay-at-home order will last, as it is based on four-week projections of the region’s ICU capacity, which is updated on a daily basis.

What’s it like to purchase food right now?

We wanted to see for ourselves exactly what buying food in Disneyland is like these days, so we stopped by Trolley Treats and grabbed an adorable and equally delicious-looking Sorcerer Mickey Rice Krispie Treat. Like the other treats currently for sale at Trolley Treats, it is sold pre-packaged.

We’ll admit that the display case doesn’t elicit the same “ooh’s” and “ahh’s” when all of the snacks come pre-wrapped, but we’re just as grateful that Disney has figured out ways to keep the magic alive while following state protocol.

We checked with a Cast Member to make sure it was okay to take our snack out for some pictures…and she said, of course! As long as we were waiting until we were off property to remove our face mask to eat this snack, snapping a few photographs was totally okay.

Depending on the weather, we recommend you buy your to-go treats at the end of your visit and on your way out from Downtown Disney. On those warm California days, you don’t want your treats melting before you even get back to your car! Luckily the day we visited was fairly mild so our Sorcerer Mickey Rice Krispie Treat was nice and safe until we got home!

So, enjoying a classic Disneyland snack feels pretty different than what it used to be. It was a little bizarre eating this entire Rice Krispie Treat on our couch! But it’s kind of comforting to know that you can still get Disney treats like these at this time.
