PHOTOS: New Distancing Barriers Increase Monorail Capacity in Disney World
Since the reopening, Disney has continually reevaluated some of its policies and methods, and made changes throughout its parks.
We’ve seen changes in terms of Disney’s face mask policies. We’ve also seen plexiglass added to several attractions and queues, changes made in terms of some seating arrangements on Disney busses, and more. Now, we’ve seen some big changes come to Disney’s monorail seating.
When Disney World reopened, the monorail and monorail loading procedures were slightly altered to allow for more social distancing. Specifically, guests are generally now given a number to stand on prior to boarding. Additionally, the cars are split with physical distancing barriers.
But, distancing requirements limited just how many guests could be seated in the same car.
Rows on the monorail did not previously have any kind of distancing barriers on them.
But, now some of them do. As we rode Monorail Blue today, we spotted a total of 4 sections now listed for some of the monorail cars.
When we got into the car, we saw that plastic distancing barriers had been added to them with sections that correspond to the numbers parties are instructed to stand on outside.
With the addition of these barriers, up to 4 parties could be seated per monorail car, with 2 parties on each row. This could increase seating capacity on the monorails.

And here’s what it looks like while sitting in one of the new sections.
Keep in mind that if you are traveling with a larger party, your party may need to split up between these new sections while sitting on the monorail.
We spotted these barriers on Monorail Blue which was on the direct line between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Magic Kingdom. But, we traveled on another monorail which was on the resort line which did not have any of these barriers in place. During our trip to Disney World today we also spotted Monorail Green and Monorail Black. Both of these had some barriers installed. But, there were still some cars in both of those monorails that did not have the barriers installed yet.
Lately, Disney has taken several steps that appear to be aimed at potentially increasing capacity in certain areas of the parks — like the addition of plexiglass on Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, and the addition of distancing barriers on Frozen Ever After, which is now seating riders in every row. Recently, Disney has also been seating riders in every row on rides like Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, Avatar Flight of Passage, and Slinky Dog Dash. We’ll keep an eye out for more updates on the monorail situation and other changes around Disney World, and let you know what we find.
