THREE Construction Projects Are Complete and Scrim Gets a Makeover in Disney World This Week!
It’s time again to check out ALL the ongoing construction projects at Disney World!
This week we’re noticing major progress at a bunch of different spots! Plus, some projects have been completed, like the Walt Disney World Entrance Sign, “it’s a small world” makeover, and the reimagined waterslide at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn!
Magic Kingdom
Main Street Train Station
Last week, lots of very noticeable brown scrim was put up surrounding the Main Street Train Station that all guests see upon entering Magic Kingdom. This week, it got a little bit of an upgrade to imitate the look of the train station better.
The new scrim added to the bottom now reflects the actual Magic Kingdom sign that sits in front of the station. Also, more brown scrim was added to the top half of the station.
On the other side of the station facing Main Street, more scrim has been added around the sides and the top.
We’re glad to be able to see at least some version of the Magic Kingdom sign while construction continues at this location!

“it’s a small world”
Speaking of scrim — colorful walls matching the facade of “it’s a small world” have been in place around the building for a while now. We noticed earlier this week, a section of the classic attraction is available for guests to see again!
And as the week progressed, even more of the scrim was removed!
We’re glad to see this Fantasyland attraction start to look like its old self again.
The iconic little boat featuring characters from the ride can be seen again!
The building is rocking a new paint job, as can be seen by this “wet paint” sign!
And as of today, all of the scrim is down!
We love the new and vibrant paint colors, and we’re glad to see another Disney project complete.

TRON Lightcycle Run
Progress is certainly moving along quickly over at TRON Lightcycle Run in Tomorrowland. Over the weekend we noticed just how much the canopy has started taking shape.
And later on in the week, we saw a crew actively working on the track and canopy!
In this close-up shot, you can see all the different fixtures that will eventually contribute to the illumination of the canopy!
We keep noticing progress each week, so hopefully, things are still on track to prepare for this attraction’s October opening!

Tom Sawyer Island
Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat are both undergoing refurbishments through the end of February. The Rivers of America has been drained for over a month now while these projects are underway. This week, we noticed all this scaffolding surrounding Harper’s Mill over on Tom Sawyer Island!
We wonder what other work is going on over on Tom Sawyer Island! We’ll keep you posted about any refurbishment updates!

EPCOT
Future World
Over in EPCOT’s Future World, demolitions are still taking place at Innoventions West.
Walls have been knocked down leaving the skeleton of this structure along with the roofing.
In the future, we can expect a new World Celebration neighborhood here, as per Disney’s announcement about EPCOT’s transformation.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
It looks like all the wood paneling has been installed on the roof of this upcoming attraction, as compared to last week!
In addition, some scrim has been added to the front of the structure for now.
Not only do we have this coaster to look forward to, but there’s also a bunch of Guardians of the Galaxy-related content coming to Disney+ in the future!

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
This week, something very exciting happened over at Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure — the signs were LIT UP!! We noticed this view from overhead as we were flying along on the Skyliner!
We can’t wait for these signs to be lit up all the time once this attraction is up and running!
See more photos of the France pavilion signs lit up!
Harmonious Nighttime Spectacular
It looks like Disney is really getting prepared for its new nighttime spectacular, Harmonious. This show will feature moving fountains, LED panels, pyrotechnics, and many more spectacles. This week, some of the barges from the show have appeared in the World Showcase Lagoon!
Signage is posted around the lagoon, informing guests about the upcoming show.
We’re really missing Disney’s nighttime spectaculars right about now, and we can’t wait to see what this new one will have in store!

Disney Springs
M&M’s Store
Some things have been added to the exterior of the M&M’s Store, expected to open in 2021.
The metal sections above the wooden platform have been added since we checked on this spot last week!
Progress on this store is slowly coming along and we’ll share more updates soon!
The M&M’s Store is set to open in 2021!
Gideon’s Bakehouse
We’re really eager for the opening of this new cookie spot coming to Disney Springs. This week, Gideon’s Bakehouse has been teasing us with some of the sweet treats we can expect once they’ve opened. We’re super excited to get our hands on these cookies, so we’ve been keeping a really close eye on construction here. We noticed a major update!
There’s now a mysterious gargoyle hanging out on the roof of the store! And he seems to have stolen the “G” from the sign!
The store has also added this fixture to the main entrance of the building!
This gargoyle is a fun and surprising addition to Gideon’s Bakehouse! We’re getting super antsy for the grand opening of this shop!

Disney Resorts
Disney’s BoardWalk Inn
We’ve gone on a wild ride this week with the updates to the Luna Park Pool at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. What once was a (terrifying) clown waterslide, is now a fun, rethemed slide featuring Mickey and Friends! It’s been a rocky process after a little typo was noticed on the slide’s new design, but it’s been fixed and we’re ready to ride!
Mickey and Minnie look like they’re having a blast on this fun slide in this sneak peek shared by imagineers!
This is a bright and fun addition to the once creepy slide, but we almost kind of…miss the clown? Either way, this brings some exciting, new detail to Disney’s BoardWalk Inn!

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
Disney’s Polynesian Resort will be welcoming guests in the summer of 2021 following a lengthy refurbishment. Here’s a peek at some of the progress on the construction at the Great Ceremonial House that we spotted from the monorail this week!
Although the monorail does not currently stop at the Polynesian, you can still get a glimpse of what’s going on as it passes through.
You can see a lot of wooden boards, and some equipment as you ride past.
Here’s a look at the resort’s iconic crossbeams that decorate the tops of the buildings!
Additionally, you can see a few spots are sectioned off for construction to progress.
Although the main resort isn’t currently accepting reservations, spots like Tambu Lounge and Kona Café are currently open.
Check out the Tropical Drink and Tiki Mug we spotted at Disney’s Polynesian Resort this week!
General Construction
Walt Disney World Entrance Sign
The entrance sign at Walt Disney World is FINALLY completed!
With the addition of some regal, gold flags atop the sign…
…and the resort’s tagline, “The Most Magical Place on Earth,” the sign has been finished!
This newly reimagined sign will be a fun way to be welcomed at the start of your Disney trip!
Check out more photos of the reimagined gateway here!
And that’s a wrap on this week’s Disney construction updates! We’re getting closer and closer to 2021, meaning the opening dates for a lot of the upcoming shops and attractions are right around the corner! We’ll be sure to return next week with more updates, so check back with us!
