They Can’t All Be Winners! 3 of Disney World WORST Food Fails!
We LOVE snacking our way around Disney World. But even though we find plenty of winners when it comes to Disney eats, they don’t ALWAYS hit the mark!
With over 400 dining experiences around Disney World property, there’s something for just about everyone to enjoy! Whether you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion at a place like California Grill or you’re just swinging by a spot like Friar’s Nook for a snack, there are countless eats to choose from. We’ve had plenty of incredible food in Disney World, but every now and then we find something that flops — HARD. These are the three WORST Disney World food fails we’ve encountered!
1. Pumpkin Pretzel in Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Oh, the sad saga of the Pumpkin Pretzel. This poor unfortunate soul was one of the holiday offerings served up at Thirsty River Bar and Trek Snacks in Animal Kingdom last holiday season. And based on the menu photo and description, it looks pretty promising, right? An icing covered spft pretzel sounded de-light-ful.
Well, this is a classic case of expectations versus reality because, while the promo pic had us expecting a cute treat, this is what we received.
OMG Pumpkin Pretzel, who hurt you?? Since we snagged this seasonal snack on the first day it was available, we even tried to go back to grab another one to see if they managed to work out the kinks, but no luck — the second version was also an ugly mess!
The lumpy, uneven icing actually looked more like (very old and expired) plastic cheese than icing. And the sad thing is, this snack actually tasted pretty good. So we were super bummed the delivery was botched so hard that it made an otherwise decent snack so unappetizing!
If the Pumpkin Pretzel ever returns to Disney World, we really hope it gets the glow-up it so desperately deserves!
We ranked the lands at Disney’s Animal Kingdom by their snacks!
2. Space Sandwich in EPCOT
When the Guardians of the Galaxy stage show, Awesome Mix Live, returned to EPCOT in the Summer of 2019, Disney also released new themed snacks to accompany it.
That SHOULD be awesome, right? Space-themed treats sound like they have endless out-of-this-world potential. Unfortunately, of all those themed eats, the one that is permanently burned into our brains is the Space Sandwich.
What’s so offensive about a barbecue pork sandwich topped with crispy onions? Well, the bun was dyed a swirly-blue color that was supposed to look cosmic, but it just looked super moldy.
The space-y blue color scheme definitely works for some types of food, like the Blueberry Cream Cheese Mousse at Satu’li Canteen. But the execution on this sandwich was just…ick.
The sandwich itself wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t particularly flavorful or impressive. Between the mediocre taste and the stomach-turning presentation, the Space Sandwich definitely had us scratching our heads!

3. Ursula Cupcake in EPCOT
While our first two food fails involved an okay snack falling victim to an unappealing delivery, our final one suffers from the exact opposite affliction. Back in 2017, the Ursula Cupcake appeared on the menu at Sunshine Seasons in EPCOT for a brief time near Halloween. And while we’ll definitely give it points for the incredible attention to detail in its design, that’s pretty much where our praise for this dessert ends.
Once we got past the cool and ominous exterior, we found that the inside of the cake was oddly an artificial bubble gum flavor. That wouldn’t normally be our first choice of cake flavor anyway, but this tasted nothing like the bubble gum flavored candy we’ve tried before. In fact, it was more reminiscent of stale, pre-chewed bubble gum scraped off from under a desk (we don’t make a habit of chewing under-desk gum, but…you know…we imagine).
We seriously struggled to get this one down. Which is a bummer, because there are so many ways this could have gone RIGHT! We wonder how much better this would have been with a cookies and cream flavored filling (which is still what the mousse LOOKS like it should have tasted like!). Or hey, even just a plain vanilla cake would have been lightyears better! Needless to say, we aren’t upset that this snack hasn’t returned since its brief stint on the menu in 2017.

We’re constantly eating our way around all of the seasonal snacks and go-to favorites in Disney World. And as many menu items as we get to try, we’re bound to find a not-so-fabulous option every now and then. Hey, they can’t all be winners, right?? You can count on us at Disney Food Blog to let you know which eats we LOVE and which ones we think are a big ol’ #fail!
