How Does the New California Stay-At-Home Order Affect Disneyland Resort? Here’s What We Know.

A few days ago, it was announced that a stay-at-home order could go into effect in Southern California.

Disney California Adventure Park

This morning, we saw that the ICU availability dropped below 15% which triggered this order into action. And tonight it was announced that the order would begin on December 6th at 11:59PM.

This affects 11 counties in Southern California including Orange County, where Disneyland Resort is located. In an update on the Disneyland website, we got more detail as to what this will look like for Downtown Disney and the recently reopened Buena Vista Street.

Buena Vista Street

The statement says that beginning on December 7th, restaurants and other dining locations will temporarily close if they do NOT offer take-out. This includes all Disney-owned restaurants in the area. Guests will also not be permitted to open or consume any food or beverage while still on property. If food or beverage are bought on property, they must be taken to-go, which is why only dining locations that offer to-go are allowed to remain open.

Retail locations at Downtown Disney will remain open with the same health and safety measures in place, however with the order retail locations are only allowed 20% capacity. Because of this, lines may become longer than usual.

If you have an existing dining reservation at Carthay Circle on Buena Vista Street, those reservations will be cancelled automatically. Guests will not be charged a cancellation fee.

According to the OC Register, around 350 Disneyland Resort employees will return to furlough due to the new stay-at-home order. It also mentions that the Downtown Disney area plans to add additional retail locations in the near future, but gave no official details on that.

This order will be in place until December 28th, and it will be extended if conditions in the county do not improve. Hopefully when there is an improvement, we will see this shopping area return to how it was before. We will continue to update this post as we learn more information on these changes at Disneyland Resort.
