If you’re a big Disney fan, then you’re probably familiar with the name Bob Iger.

Iger served as the CEO for the Walt Disney Company for several years until very recently, but still currently serves as Executive Chairman. Iger seriously considered running for President of the United States and ultimately decided not to, but it seems that he may soon be involved again in public service. Iger is reportedly a possible candidate to be a United States ambassador.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources have informed them that Iger is at the top of President-elect Joe Biden’s list to become an Ambassador of the United States, possibly to China or the United Kingdom. A Biden spokesperson and Disney representative both declined to comment about this to The Hollywood Reporter.

At Disney, Iger was critical in leading the acquisition of Pixar, Marvel, LucasFilm, and 21st Century Fox. Although he has stepped down from his position as CEO, Iger is set to remain in his current role as Executive Chairman through the end of 2021. Aside from considering a presidential run, Iger was also involved in governmental work this year through his involvement in California’s Business Recovery Task Force, which he later left. If Iger accepts the ambassadorship, it could mark the end of his long career at Disney.

Sources have also reported the Jeffrey Katzenberg (a former Studio Chief at Disney and later co-founder of DreamWorks) is also potentially in the mix for an ambassadorship, as well as producer Matt Walden and others.

Iger was a top Hollywood donor to President-elect Biden’s presidential campaign, donating thousands to The Biden Victory Project. Katzenberg also donated thousands to the same fund. The Hollywood Reporter notes that six United States presidents served as the United Kingdom ambassador. So, a presidential run for Iger could still be a possibility in the future.

Only time will tell whether Iger will ultimately become an ambassador to China, the U.K., or somewhere else, and what impact that will have on his time at Disney. We’ll definitely keep an eye out for more updates and let you know as we find more information on this.
