All The 💥Mind-Blowing💥 Things You Forgot Were Coming to Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure
It might be hard to believe, but Avengers Campus was originally scheduled to open at Disney California Adventure five months ago, in July of 2020! Disneyland Resort’s extended closure may have delayed the opening of this expansion, but we’re still over here geeking out over some of the incredible details that will be a part of this new land!
Let’s do a little recap of what we can expect once Avengers Campus finally opens!
Incredible Technology
As Disney’s answer to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Avengers Campus has a lot to live up to when it comes to the latest theme park technology. The land’s first attraction, W.E.B Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure, promises to be a truly unique and interactive experience for guests! The ride combines state-of-the-art animatronics, 3D glasses, and virtual ride systems to provide an experience that we’ve never seen before at a Disney park!
Guests earn points individually as well as for their vehicle when they catch Spider-Bots, which will be a fun, interactive merchandise item sold in Avengers Campus (think Droid Depot in Galaxy’s Edge). These Spider-Bots will be sold with different personalities and abilities based on some of our favorite Marvel superheroes! And you can already snag these at Downtown Disney.
Another key feature is that this attraction will have no height requirement, so Spidey fans of all ages can take part in the fun. We were even able to get a first look at the ride vehicles during the IAAPA Conference in November!
There’s a second E-ticket attraction coming in Phase Two of Avengers Campus’ opening, where guests board a Quinjet and travel to Wakanda to join a team of Marvel superheroes in battle! The ride will feature seats that double as a weapons system as well as jet packs, which sounds too cool to be true!
If these two attractions weren’t enough to get us excited, Avengers Campus will actually feature a FLYING Spider-Man! And no, we aren’t talking about a live stunt performer; we’re talking about a flying ANIMATRONIC.
This is some state-of-the-art technology we’re talking about here, and we can’t wait to see all of it in action! Spider-Man isn’t the only character you’ll have to “look up” to see. A whole lineup of Marvel superheroes will make an appearance in a rooftop stunt show. We’re talking Black Widow, Captain America, Black Panther, and of course, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

Immersive Storytelling
While impressive technology will certainly be at the forefront of Avengers Campus, we’re also looking forward to Disney’s signature storytelling that we know will play a key role in bringing the land to life. Before the closures, we were able to get a glimpse into just how committed Disney was to making sure each and every detail of Avengers Campus was fully integrated and essential to telling the story.
Again, Avengers Campus will be the first significant land expansion in a domestic Disney park since Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which is full of immersive storytelling! From land-specific vocabulary (remember when we had to figure out what “Rising Suns” meant?) to Cast Members not even telling us about Savi’s Workshop unless we knew to ask about scrap metal, there’s no question Disney wants to go all-out.
For Avengers Campus, Disney had an incredible hiring process for selecting the Cast Members for the land. Candidates had to come up with their own superhero identity and solve a series of puzzles as a team before they began any sort of formal interview. They couldn’t even get access to the interview room unless they cracked the code!
Just before the closures began, Disney was also finalizing the menu over at Pym Test Kitchen, the counter-service dining location at Avengers Campus. Some of the food sounded totally mind-boggling, like a Not So Little Chicken Sandwich and the Impossible Spoonful, a pasta dish with a MASSIVE meatless meatball.
How does the food get so big in Avengers Campus, exactly? The “science” behind Pym Test Kitchen are, of course, red and blue Pym Particles. Red particles help the food shrink, while blue particles help the food grow! Their menu is also said to feature foot-long candy bars!
While we may be several months away from learning anything more about Avengers Campus, we have heard and seen enough to know that this will be a land, unlike anything Disney has done before! Don’t forget, there is a version of this land coming to Disneyland Paris, too!
Doctor Strange could probably show us what an alternate universe would have been like if we could experience Avengers Campus this past summer, but we’ll have to wait as patiently as we can for the ultimate grand opening at Disney California Adventure!
