REVIEW: What We Can Learn From This Disney World Breakfast Fail.
We’ve eaten a LOT of breakfast stuff at Disney World, from waffles (LOTS of waffles) to breakfast wraps to breakfast sandwiches.
So we feel we know a little bit about what to expect from breakfast foods at Disney Resorts. So this morning, we headed over to Landscape of Flavors at the newly reopened Art of Animation Resort to check out what was for…you guessed it…breakfast.
This super creative option is called…Breakfast Sandwich, which seems a little too on-the-nose, but whatever. It’s eggs, bacon, and American cheese on a freshly-baked baguette. It’s basic, but sounds like it could be OK, right?
So we grabbed it for $6.79, along with a cup of coffee, because, for this reviewer, breakfast ALWAYS requires coffee.
After unwrapping and digging into the sandwich, we get why they didn’t bother with a better name. The eggs tasted microwaved. The plain American cheese was gooey and stuck messily to the wrapper. The bread tasted stale, and the bacon was flimsy. Who wants to start breakfast with meh bacon, y’all?
And if this was our first experience with food at Disney, we’d be disappointed and wishing we’d just gone to McDonald’s! And I imagine that’s what a lot of people think when they dig into a disappointing item at Disney World.
This could have been so much better; and honestly, since this was Art of Animation’s reopening day and things were probably a little hectic, we’re guessing that it WILL be better in the future. The potential was there, but it’s definitely a breakfast fail at least for today.
But we wanted to do this post for two reasons:
- To illustrate why we return again and again to Disney restaurants. Everyone has an off day, so it’s important for us here at DFB to let you know when we have a meh experience and when we have a great experience. Often, they’re at the same exact restaurant. Disney restaurants change so much over their lifetime — new chefs, new servers, new menus on a regular basis. So going back multiple times and reviewing these locations is the only way to really know who’s hitting their stride right now…and we share that info with you.
- To show that when it comes to standard items at Disney hotels — like a breakfast sandwich literally called “breakfast sandwich” — you can kind of deduce from our experience that those menu items are there simply to feed the masses as they’re rushing out to catch the bus or Skyliner to the park for the day. They don’t really have any wow factor. And that’s good to know. There are Disney breakfast items that are incredible, but “breakfast sandwich” isn’t one of them. So maybe save your money and grab something more unique or delicious later on in the parks instead. OR, if “breakfast sandwich” makes sense for you on a frantic Disney morning when you know you aren’t going to be able to stop for food for a while, you know what to expect.
Hopefully that’s helpful!
We’re keeping an eye on all the new menu items at Disney World, so we’ll let you know what else we find and let you know what we think!
