NEWS: Disneyland Resort Announces Additional Furloughs for Cast Members
While the reopening guidelines have been announced for Disneyland and other California theme parks, we still do not have an opening date for Disneyland.
Some health experts say the parks may not be able to open until the summer of 2021, leaving Disney and California mayors asking for a change of the guidelines.
Because of the reopening uncertainty, Disney has laid off several Cast Members at Disneyland Resort. And now, it looks like there will be additional furloughs coming to Disneyland Resort Cast Members.
According to OC Register, Disneyland president Ken Potrock announced the additional furloughs of executive, salaried, and hourly workers in a letter to Cast Members. Potrock stated “Since Disneyland Resort closed its gates in March, nothing has been more important than fully reopening and getting our Cast Members back to work.”
He continued saying, “That’s why it is with heavy hearts we find ourselves in the untenable situation of having to institute additional furloughs for our executive, salaried, and hourly cast. We expected to be able to open our parks in Anaheim, given our proven ability to operate with responsible health and safety protocols as we have in all of our other theme parks around the world, but unfortunately this has not been the case.”
Potrock ends his statement explaining that “these decisions and actions are difficult.” He promises that the company “will continue to work tirelessly to reopen the resort and get Cast Members back to work.”
