We STILL Have No Reopening Date Announced For These Five Important Disney World Locations

In the months since Disney World began its phased reopening, we’ve gotten TONS of questions from our readers regarding the status of some of our favorite locations throughout the resort!

Main Street, U.S.A.

From restaurants and resorts to barbershops and boutiques, here’s a list of just SOME of the locations that STILL have no reopening date announced!

Disney’s Port Orleans Resorts

The majority of Disney World’s hotels have either reopened or have announced a reopening date. Then there are the two Port Orleans Resorts, French Quarter and Riverside, that have yet to announce ANYTHING. Not even a PEEP of a reopening timeline has been announced for these Moderate Resorts. We just want to see Yehaa Bob again! The All-Star Resorts have also been pretty silent when it comes to a reopening date.

Port Orleans Riverside

Some resorts have had their original reopening plans delayed, like Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. And most recently Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort’s reopening was delayed by a whopping YEAR and will now open summer 2021. But Port Orleans is a rare example of hotels that have announced NOTHING as of this writing.

Disney has been very flexible in accommodating Guests with upcoming reservations at resorts that wind up being closed. If you fall into this category, Disney will reach out to you in order to move you to an open resort at no added cost. You can read more about what to do if your hotel isn’t reopening here.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

One of the highlights of a Disney World vacation for a young prince or princess is a trip to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique! So we totally understand the concern that this popular place with locations in Magic Kingdom, Disney Springs, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa has yet to announce a reopening date!

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique – Currently closed

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is an experience that brings guests and Cast Members into close, prolonged contact with one another, so Disney is more than likely erring on the side of caution when it comes to reopening this location.

Harmony Barber Shop

In the same vein as Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, Disney World has yet to announce a reopening date for Harmony Barber Shop, located on Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom. Much like your local hair salon or barber shop, this experience is the exact opposite of what Disney World is trying to promote at this time, which is a contactless experience for both guests and Cast Members.

We’re sure this iconic Main Street location will reopen one day, but for now, it sounds like the NBA’s Bubble League Barber Shop is the only location on property cutting hair at the moment!

In addition to getting your hair cut, here are some other bizarre things you can do in Disney World!

Restaurants Galore!

A large number of restaurants have reopened in Disney World; however, there are many that are still closed and have yet to announce any reopening plans. Some of these restaurants are pretty major players!

For example, we have NO idea when ‘Ohana will reopen, but we can only hope that it reopens sooner than summer 2021, which is when Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is now scheduled to reopen.

‘Ohana Character Breakfast

Most signature dining is also put on hold, and we haven’t gotten any updates on these high-end dining experiences. Most notably, we don’t know when to expect Victoria and Albert’s to reopen! Other signature restaurants in the Grand Floridian have not announced reopening dates, including Narcoossee’s and Citricos.

White Glove Chocolate Truffle Service

Dinner shows like Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue and Disney’s Spirit of Aloha are also unavailable with no reopening dates announced at this time. A few in-park favorites are closed as well, like Casey’s Corner and Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom.

Most of the Live Stage Shows

Disney World isn’t just about the rides, and yes, even WE will admit it’s not JUST about the incredible food! Disney has some spectacular live stage shows that have largely been put on hold. These include Festival of the Lion King and Finding Nemo the Musical in Animal Kingdom, as well as Beauty and the Beast — Live on Stage and Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, to name a few.

Indiana Jones

There’s no word yet on when these shows will return, for perhaps a few reasons. First, theatrical events and live stage shows where large crowds of audiences are clustered together for an extended amount of time is probably NOT the safest environment. Even if seating in theaters was socially distanced, you’re still packing hundreds of guests into tighter quarters.

Disney is offering a few shows, but very few. You can currently watch “The Disney Society Orchestra and Friends” show and the Disney Junior Play and Dance Party at Hollywood Studios.

Disney has also had a rather public back-and-forth feud with Actors Equity, the union of professional stage actors who represent many of the performers in Disney World. Equity has been hesitant to allow its members to return to work, citing a lack of adequate testing on Disney’s part as one of the main reasons why.  And while the two groups have seemed to come to an agreement, the shows involving equity performers have yet to return.

The return of fireworks and parades like Festival of Fantasy have not received a return date either. While guests can enjoy character cavalcades, Disney’s big parades and nighttime spectaculars still remain on hold.

Happily Ever After

Disneyland Resort

Alright, this last one isn’t a Disney World location, but we figured we would throw in a special bonus SIXTH item. As of this writing, we STILL do not know when Disneyland, the Happiest Place on Earth will reopen. Disneyland originally had a reopening date planned for July 17, but that was all put on hold from the state government. Since then, it’s been radio silence from the west coast!

Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle

California Governor Gavin Newsom said in a recent news conference that discussions concerning theme parks were “forthcoming,” although his newly rolled out tiered monitoring system for the state’s counties puts Orange County, where Disneyland resides, in the highest risk category for at least 21 more days.

Disney California Adventure

Ultimately we won’t know when Disneyland will reopen until Disney announces a date themselves! It appears as though California is acting out of an abundance of caution, so until Disneyland and California Adventure reopen, we’ll have to make do with just Downtown Disney being open for Guests!

When Disney World said “phased” reopening, they REALLY meant a phased reopening. Not everything is coming back right away, and as Disney navigates these unprecedented times, they have had to make in-the-moment decisions to delay certain locations reopening. Disney may or may not have dates in mind for when they would like these locations to reopen, but until the make an official announcement, we’ll just have to be patient!
