Review: We’re Trying ‘The Grey Stuff’ Cupcake at Gaston’s Tavern in Disney World!
Did you hear him shout it from the rooftops? Gaston is (very) proud to let you know that his Tavern has reopened to guests in Magic Kingdom!
As of today, Magic Kingdom guests can once again stop by Gaston’s Tavern in Fantasyland to grab a LeFou’s Brew, enjoy a Warm Cinnamon Roll, and admire the statue of Gaston just outside the counter service spot placed there in tribute by… Gaston himself.
In addition to the classic snacks mentioned above, guests at the Tavern will also find a new addition to the menu: The Grey Stuff Cupcake (also referred to as The Master’s Cupcake).
TA DA!!!!
A bit of background… The Master’s Cupcake was previously served at Be Our Guest Restaurant when this popular location served a counter service-style lunch. But Be Our Guest Restaurant has switched to serving its signature prix-fixe Table Service menu for lunch as well as dinner since Magic Kingdom reopened in July.
And so, The Master’s Cupcake was no longer an option… until today!

The name has been changed to The Grey Stuff Cupcake on the menu sign, which also reflects that it is presented by none other than Be Our Guest Restaurant!
You see… The Master’s Cupcake itself was topped with “The Grey Stuff,” made famous by the song “Be Our Guest” from Beauty and the Beast!
As it was at Be Our Guest Restaurant, the Grey Stuff sits atop a chocolate cake base, garnished with candy pearls and a chocolate square.
You’ll even find a bit more of The Grey Stuff inside the cake base itself!
As always, The Grey Stuff is plentifully packed with cookies-and-cream flavor… you can even see fine cookie bits in the Grey Stuff which frosts the cake.
It’s got a light, creamy texture and it’s — c’mon, say it with me… DELICIOUS! (You can even find the recipe here to try it at home!) And the chocolate sponge cake is both rich and moist. Our only complaint?
The SIZE! This treat is $5.49, the actual amount of cake you get for this cupcake is… NOT MUCH. Granted, what you’re really getting here is the chance to try The Grey Stuff. The cake itself is simply a Grey Stuff conduit for a lot of folks. Basically, if you’re looking for a big, tasty cupcake in Magic Kingdom… you might find it best to wait for next week’s return of the Not-So-Poison Apple Cupcake.
But if you’re main goal is to try The Grey Stuff to see for yourself if it truly is DELICIOUS?
Find the recipe to make The Grey Stuff at home by clicking here!
Well, you can accomplish that at Gaston’s Tavern for now! Enjoy!
