Why This Random Disney World Bakery Is Actually The Sleeper Hit Of The Summer!
Disney World’s BoardWalk is a dining, shopping, nightlife, and resort area located near EPCOT in Walt Disney World. The area is inspired by turn-of-the-century boardwalks located on coastal cities like Coney Island and Atlantic City.
And located along the BoardWalk is a small and unassuming bakery that’s always been…you know…fine. It had the odd winner of a cupcake, and one time it had a sandwich called the Butter Butter, which is extra in the best way possible. But overall, The BoardWalk Bakery has always been just fine if you were staying at the BoardWalk Inn, but nothing you really needed to travel to experience.
But since the parks and resorts started to reopen, we’ve been on a mission to see what’s new and what’s missing from our favorite Disney spots. And we’ve been super impressed by what’s been pullin’ us into BoardWalk Bakery so far!
CHOCOLATE Mickey Waffle Sundae
Do we really need to say more? Ok, we will, but only because we love talking about Mickey waffles. The BoardWalk Bakery is NEWLY serving up to-go Mickey Waffle Sundaes.
We’ve seen Mickey Waffle Sundaes at a few other locations, but this is a FIRST for the BoardWalk Bakery! And it gets even BETTER than that! The sundae comes with one CHOCOLATE and one regular Mickey waffle topped with ice cream, sprinkles, and a cherry.
CHOCOLATE. MICKEY. WAFFLES! These are v. rare in Disney World. We’ve seen them a couple times here and there, but it was a huge surprise to see them pop up randomly at the BoardWalk Bakery of all places.
Enjoy it on the BoardWalk (or in your car while you blast the a/c ’cause there’s not a lot of covered outdoor seating at the BoardWalk Bakery).
And there’s MORE! We haven’t even gotten to the best part yet! Get this: the sundae is made with a different kind of ice cream every week. So far, we’ve seen the bakery use “munchies,” peanut butter, and cookie dough ice creams.
And don’t forget — it’s a good thing the bakery is amping up their ice cream game! Ample Hills Creamery next door to the Bakery announced its closure on Disney World property recently. Ample Hills was a great standby for BoardWalk ice cream sundaes, and it seems like the BoardWalk Bakery is picking up the slack with new treats like this sundae and more!
As if we needed more convincing, you have the option to order it in a Mickey Mouse souvenir bowl. The sundae with a souvenir bowl costs $15.97 and the sundae without the bowl costs $10.01.

Do we even need to list more reasons why you should visit the bakery?? (The answer is yes because there’s a lot more good food where that came from.)
Grilled Cheese with Tomato Soup
Two pieces of bread and some cheese. How can that be a reason to venture out to the BoardWalk? Buckle up! Its reputation precedes it as one of the ooey-est gooey-est grilled cheese sandwiches we’ve had from Disney World. Now this one isn’t NEW since the reopening like the sundae, but with so many of our favorite counter service locations closed or offering limited menus — and since you’re already coming here for the sundae anyway — we’re excited to remind you that this must-get is still around!
The bread is crispy and SO buttery delicious! You can really taste the butter come through with every bite. The sandwich is baked in a panini press to give it that extra crunchy texture and to melt the cheese all the way through. The sandwich comes with a fresh tomato soup that’s great for dunking. Overall it’s a perfect pairing of the classic grilled cheese and tomato soup but done really, really well.
Many quick-service restaurants are temporarily unavailable at Disney World. Hot quick-service meals that are as good as this? A diamond in the rough! We would deem this dynamic duo as one of our top choices for a quick-service meal at Disney World. The amped-up classic is available during lunch and dinner and costs $9.99.

FRESH Bakery Goods Are Still On Pointe!
The menu at BoardWalk Bakery has seen a few changes since the reopening, but they really surprised us with how in-the-game they were even before Disney World’s parks reopened!
This 4th of July, they slammed out THREE holiday-themed treats. They are NOT sleepin’ on the new treats that’s for sure! The 4th of July cupcake we had last month really knocked it out of the park for us. It offered cheesecake (!!!) filling paired with a rich chocolate cake. Oh, and they even had a TINY PIE!!! We’ll be making many trips back to see if the new cupcakes and treats popping up throughout the year are as impressive!

Bonus Reason: The BoardWalk is super peaceful right now! Due to limited capacity, Disney World crowds are lower than normal most of the time. Sadly, nightlife at the BoardWalk is pretty much non-existent — Jellyrolls Dueling Piano Bar, Atlantic Dance Hall, and the Flying Fish Cafe are temporarily closed right now — but the upshot of that is that the BoardWalk has been peacefully quiet as a result. Enjoy the view of Crescent Lake while you chow down on your Mickey Waffle Sundae blissfully alone.
