While some of these shortened terms for Disney rides and concepts are pretty easy to decipher, others might leave you scratching your head, tbh. If you don’t speak this rare and exotic language of Disney-isms, we’re here to help! So, let’s rank 23 of the most common Disney World acronyms from NBD to OMG! And on your next Disney planning foray, you’ll be an EXPERT!
WDW — Walt Disney World
Okay, let’s start off with the easiest of the acronyms and work our way up to expert-level! Standing in for Walt Disney World, WDW is the shorthand that some guests might find themselves using when planning their vacation!

WDW is short, easy to remember, and references a term that pretty much anyone who visits is sure to know; which makes it the easiest Disney World (or should we say, WDW) acronym in our book!

MK — Magic Kingdom
Short for Magic Kingdom, MK is an acronym that most guests will pick up on pretty quickly. Magic Kingdom is considered by many to be the most iconic Disney World park, so this abbreviation isn’t too tough to place!

And since most guests know this park as “Magic Kingdom” the acronym matches up. This isn’t the case for all of the parks — more on that later!

FP+ — FastPass+
While FastPass+ isn’t quite as intuitive as the names of the parks or Disney World itself, many guests will encounter it early in their vacation planning process.

The FP+ (or just FP without the +) acronym is short and easy to remember, especially since it comes up frequently throughout park days!

CM — Cast Member
With only two letters, this acronym is pretty simple and straightforward. For those unfamiliar with the term, Disney refers to employees as Cast Members or CMs for short, because Walt always said his parks were a “show,” and everyone who worked in them was “on stage.”

And while this is a unique term that all visitors might not be familiar with (especially those on their first Disney vacation!) once you hear this one, it’s pretty easy to commit to memory!

DAK — Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Remember how we mentioned that the other park acronyms are a bit trickier than Magic Kingdom? Well, here we are! While most guests know the park as “Animal Kingdom” its full name is Disney’s Animal Kingdom — hence the abbreviation of DAK.

That extra letter might throw off an unsuspecting guest trying to decode an acronym! But since it’s still relatively close to the initials that most guests know this park by, DAK still manages to fall on the easier end of the acronym scale. And yes, you will see some folks abbreviate it as just AK, to make things more confusing! When in doubt, stick with DAK.

DHS — Disney’s Hollywood Studios
You can probably tell where this one is going! Most guests know this park as simply “Hollywood Studios” — or even “MGM” from the good old days — so the abbreviation of DHS could throw you for a loop.

But despite the extra layer of confusion given the name change in 2008, the official name of the park is now Disney’s Hollywood Studios — and so we arrive at the DHS acronym!

MDE or MDX — My Disney Experience
The My Disney Experience app allows guests to manage dining reservations, make FastPass+ selections, snag a boarding group for Rise of the Resistance, check wait times, and more. But, while many people will get a lot of use out of this tool, it might not be a topic at the top of their mind when trying to decode an acronym!

If you think of this as something like the “Disney World app” or the “wait time checker” the MDE abbreviation might not click right away! And MDX (My Disney EXperience…get it…) may make even less sense! But trust us, next time you’re in the park texting a friend or family member to check wait times quick for Splash Mountain, it’s much easier to just say “check MDE” instead of the lengthier “check My Disney Experience” or “check the WDW app!” Every second counts!
You don’t think THIS makes a difference on your Disney World vacation, but it DOES!
ADR — Advance Dining Reservation
Outside of Disney World, we often just use the term “reservation” or maybe “restaurant reservation.” But at Disney, things are a bit extra, and Advance Dining Reservations get an acronym to match!

Guests often look forward to booking their ADRs at coveted spots like Cinderella’s Royal Table and Be Our Guest Restaurant. If food is a major factor in your Disney World vacation, you’ll probably find yourself using the ADR shorthand before long!

DDP — Disney Dining Plan
Given the popularity of the Disney Dining Plan, you might see and hear DDP a lot!

But since there isn’t much of a “real-life” equivalent to the dining plan, this abbreviation isn’t necessarily intuitive. Especially for guests who aren’t on the DDP themselves!

DVC — Disney Vacation Club
You might hear Cast Members and Disney Vacation Club members use this acronym a lot, but to the average guest, the term DVC probably doesn’t mean much.

For those still wondering what this means, Disney Vacation Club is a vacation ownership program, or timeshare, that allows members to lock in years of future vacations. So it makes sense why this can seem like an obscure acronym, especially for first-time Disney-goers!

TTC — Transportation and Ticket Center
Have you ever had a Cast Member (or fellow guest) tell you to head to the “TTC” and found yourself thinking, “What the heck is that??” Well, TTC is short for Transportation and Ticket Center — the monorail, ferry, and bus transportation hub that services both Magic Kingdom and EPCOT.

The TTC isn’t mentioned much in casual Disney World conversations — if you’re talking to your coworker or friend about their vacation, they’re not likely to randomly mention the TTC! So this is an acronym that’s not on most people’s radars until they encounter it themselves.

SDD — Slinky Dog Dash
There are a number of attractions in Disney World that have earned their own acronyms. Due to its popularity, we think Slinky Dog Dash, abbreviated SDD, is one of the easier ones to remember!

ROTR — Rise of the Resistance
Another attraction abbreviation that may be at the top of your mind is Rise of the Resistance, or ROTR, the headlining attraction in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

And based on the importance of snagging a boarding group first thing in the morning, the shorthand for this ride might be a helpful time-saver!

HEA — Happily Ever After
Happily Ever After or HEA is the Magic Kingdom fireworks show that made its debut in 2017.

So, this acronym could be a little extra tricky for Disney World guests who are visiting for the first time since the previous fireworks show, Wishes, was replaced! These fireworks aren’t currently available but we’re waiting to hear when we can see HEA light up the sky again!

SDMT or 7DMT — Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
You might see Seven Dwarfs Mine Train over in Magic Kingdom abbreviated as either SDMT or 7DMT.

And while the SDMT acronym can take a little bit of puzzle to figure out, the inclusion of the number in the 7DMT abbreviation is a helpful hint!

BTMRR — Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
At first glance, this might seem like a random assortment of letters. But since RR is a widely known abbreviation for “railroad,” that’s a tip-off that BTMRR is the acronym for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad!

We think Festival of the Lion King, or FOTLK, is a must-do in Animal Kingdom! It’s a stunning show that involves live music, acrobatics, dancing, and FIRE!

So, if you see letters FOTLK, don’t just scan over it — this is an acronym that’s definitely worth decoding! Heads up, we’re guilty of calling this one the slightly easier to remember FOLK, so if you see that one you know what’s up!

ITTBAB — It’s Tough to be a Bug!
This is one that might break your brain if you try to figure it out without context! It’s Tough to be a Bug!, or ITTBAB, is a show held inside the Tree of Life at Animal Kingdom.

It’s a super long acronym, and since ITTBAB isn’t typically thought of as a major attraction, you might have to rack your brain for a while before you work this one out!

BWI — Disney’s BoardWalk Inn
The shorthand for Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, BWI, can be a little extra tricky since it has two letters from the same word. This acronym might be shorter than some of the attractions, but we think the hotel abbreviations are harder to decode for most guests, especially if they’ve never stayed there!

Here’s another commonly abbreviated Disney World hotel that you might not recognize if you haven’t visited! Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, or CBR is a HUGE moderate resort in the EPCOT Resort area.

POR & POFQ — Disney’s Port Orleans Resorts
While Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside (POR) and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter (POFQ) are close in proximity and name, they’re two different resorts. Which makes keeping these acronyms straight all the more challenging, hence their relatively high placement on our list!

We’ve finally made it to our most confusing, “Did a cat run across my keyboard?” Disney acronym! MNSSHP stands for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, the Halloween counterpart to MVMCP. Made up of a whopping six letters, this one is super-long and nearly impossible to deduce for those new to Disney World!
