We’re LIVE From the Official Reopening of Hollywood Studios in Disney World
Hollywood Studios and EPCOT are officially reopening in Disney World today.
We are reporting LIVE from both parks to give you all the details on crowds, wait times, and the overall park changes. OH, and, of course, we will be answering the biggest question on most people’s minds — the new Rise of the Resistance virtual queue.
We will be updating this post throughout the day, so be sure to check back!!
Entering Hollywood Studios
We were let into the parking lot at 9:30AM this morning. Others had already arrived and parked before us. This is pretty different from what we’ve experienced at other parks. Up until today, we have been held with long lines until about 20-30 minutes prior to the park opening.
Like the other parks, parking was every other car.
Temperature screening was up first. We headed through white tents and AdventHealth team members took our temperatures using handheld infrared thermometers.
For the security screening, we were asked to remove all umbrellas, metal drink containers, and aerosol cans. Everything else could be carried through the detectors.
There was no fingerprint touchpoint at the admission point. You just scan your MagicBand or card.
Disney had opened the gates early to allow guests to start filing into Hollywood Studios. We were inside the park around 9:45AM. Hollywood Studios’ official opening time was 10AM.
Crowds and Wait Times
We noticed that crowds were a little heavier here than we felt like they were on other parks’ opening days.
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway was packed before the park was even officially open. A few minutes after opening, the wait was already listed at 120 minutes.
Once you get out of the entrance, crowds disperse a little bit. Still, we already spotted areas of build-up, like near Rise of Resistance in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Health Measures
As far as we could tell, this interactive photo op by Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater was still available.
We spotted the first Relaxation Station in Galaxy’s Edge. Guests can utilize the socially distanced tables and remove their masks in these areas.
In Galaxy’s Edge, we spotted a functioning water bottle refill station near the Marketplace.
There was also a functioning water fountain nearby.
Rise of the Resistance Virtual Queue
The Rise of the Resistance Virtual Queue showed up as an option on our home screen before we were even in the park.
The queue opens at three different windows — 10AM, 1PM, and 4PM. Outside of those windows, you cannot select the Rise of the Resistance Virtual Queue.
We were able to snag a boarding group this morning. But within 3 minutes all of the 10AM boarding groups had been distributed.
Attractions Updates
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
The wait for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run was around an hour for most of the morning. The queue stretched out past the Millennium Falcon and around the pathways.
Dining Updates
The Trolley Car Cafe
When we passed by The Trolley Car Cafe, there was a Cast Member outside to mark the line, a designated entrance and exit, and distancing stickers.
Ronto Roasters
Mobile Order was heavily encouraged at Ronto Roasters this morning.
Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo
Docking Bay 7 had a Cast Member outside to encourage Mobile Order. There was a pretty good crowd waiting for their food.
Shopping Updates
Black Spire Outpost Marketplace
Due to high demand, Black Spire Outpost Marketplace was blocked off so that Cast Members could implement a Virtual Queue for the area.
We will continue to update this post throughout the day, so please check back for more details and info!
