NEWS! Ample Hills Creamery Has Filed For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
In news not related to the Coronavirus pandemic, Ample Hills Creamery, one of our most beloved spots to enjoy hand-crafted ice creams at Disney World’s BoardWalk Inn, has had to make a very tough decision.
The company which is based out of New York has just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
If you’re anything like us (and we already know you are!), by now you’re probably thinking this day is already pretty crummy. Disney World is closing down, the world is going totally cray, and now one of our favorite ice cream joints is going AWAY?!?
But don’t panic! Chapter 11 bankruptcy is very different from Chapter 7 bankruptcy. The main difference is a debtor’s assets are sold off to pay the creditors in Chapter 7 bankruptcy whereas in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the debtor can negotiate with creditors to modify the terms of the loan without having to liquidate their assets.
And according to an Ample Hills Creamery spokesperson who talked to Eater, this bankruptcy is going to allow the company “to restructure and refocus” as it moves forward.
Currently, Disney World’s Ample Hills Creamery is still open at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, however, according to its website, it will be closing at 5 PM on March 20th when the rest of Disney World’s resorts shut down for the remainder of the month.
When the Disney World resorts reopen, we have no reason to suspect Ample Hills Creamery won’t also reopen at this time. But things can change, so we will continue to keep you posted.
Whether or not this means we will still see an Ample Hills Creamery in Disney Springs or not, we’re not totally sure, but the page on the Walt Disney World website still says “coming soon.” We’ll continue to follow the story and let you know if and when we hear of any updates!
