We Attended the Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort’s 2019 Food and Wine Classic and We’re Basically Expert Mixologists Now

A few weeks ago, the 2019 Food and Wine Classic took place at the Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resorts!

2019 Food and Wine Classic

And while we already told you about some of the tasty sips and bites you could enjoy at this year’s fest when we attended a special preview event a few weeks ago, here’s a look at two of the exclusive events we attended this year!

First up, we were super-stoked to be attending the Craft Cocktails class this year! For $55, you get to enjoy three full-size cocktails — so yeah, you know we were quick to signup for THIS one!

Upon arrival, we were given a yummy Kombucha Paloma. It was made with a blend of mezcal and tequila, a sprig of rosemary, grapefruit liquor and topped with Kombucha. While many may not like the taste of kombucha on its own, we gotta say, if you add a splash of a lil sumthin’ sumthin’ to it, something magical happens!

We had all the tools of the trade laid out for us when we sat at our station…

…including some Bacardí Rum, Four Roses Bourbon, and aromatic bitters.

The class was instructed by the Director of Beverage, Ariel Bruckner and Jason Bradley, the General Manager at bluezoo. After learning the history behind some of the world’s most popular specialty cocktails, it was time to get to mixin’ up some of our own!

Craft Cocktails

Of course, we were thrilled our little set-up included a plate of nibbles! We were havin’ a blast mixing up cocktails while snacking on the open-faced lobster roll, cheese crunchies, and deviled egg!

Snacks During the Seminar

During the class, we rolled up our sleeves and got to make two fun cocktails! The first was a daiquiri, made with fresh-squeezed lime juice, rum, and simple syrup. But the fun part was the Swan and Dolphin team had previously made a frozen strawberry mixture in a glass, which served as our ice! As it melted, strawberry flavor mixed with the drink! Adding this to our party hosting ideas list.

We also got to make a Whiskey Sour — topped with an egg white! It’s not as weird as it sounds — many classic cocktails incorporate shaken egg whites into the mix. Can’t promise we’ll make this one again for our guests, but it was surprisingly tasty. And we were pretty proud of this beauty we shook up!

With our newly-acquired bartending skills, we knew we were going to throw one heck of a holiday party this year… but the fun didn’t stop there! We also scoped out the Wine Blending class taught by Luciano Sperduto, Director of Food and Beverage.

Wine Blending

This seminar was all about the art of wine — which we’re ALL ABOUT! This class focused on learning the tastes of different wines along with how to know which ones to pair with which kinds of food — a skill that really comes in handy!

Wine Blending

The Bordeaux Blending Lab was really interesting! Not only did we have SO MUCH WINE in front of us…

…but we were lent a special pipette to blend them with!

Changing a little bit more of one varietal or the other can dramatically change the taste of a wine blend, and it was a blast playing food scientists for a while coming up with our favorite mix! This class came with its own plate of munchies too including a selection of brie, cheddar, and goat cheeses served with honeycomb, guava paste, and a little piece of date cake!

Wine Blending

All our new wine and cocktail knowledge wasn’t the only thing we were taking home with us. Check out the cool Food and Wine Classic notepad and pen we scored!

And we’re toasting this year’s 2019 Food and Wine Classic with our new commemorative wine glass which we also received at the seminar! Cheers, to you, Disney’s Swan and Dolphin Resorts!

2019 Food and Wine Classic

And while it will be a whole year until the Food and Wine Classic returns to the Swan and Dolphin, Epcot’s 2019 Food and Wine Festival is still going strong (well, at least for a few more days!) so if you missed out on last weekend, get over to Epcot to snag the last few morsels of their fest which is happening now through November 23rd!
