Review! Kimonos Sushi Bar at Walt Disney World’s Swan Hotel

Kimonos Sushi Bar is a table-service sushi restaurant at Walt Disney World’s Swan Hotel.

Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin

This restaurant has been named the Best Sushi in Orlando by the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper and offers traditional Japanese cuisine in a contemporary atmosphere. Come for the great fish, but you’ll want to stay for the karaoke in the evenings!

Kimonos is open nightly for dinner and is located on the main floor of the Swan Hotel. Since the Swan is not a Disney-owned resort, it does NOT accept Disney Dining Plan credits or MagicBand payments. Reservations are not offered at the restaurant, so feel free to simply show up!

We recently tried a variety of dishes at Kimonos, so let’s dive in and tell you about our experience.

Atmosphere

Kimonos evokes a warm environment with rich colors and dark wood furniture. A variety of seating, such as cushioned chairs and couches, are scattered throughout the restaurant to add to the ambiance.

Real kimonos are hung around the restaurant, introducing some Japanese authenticity to the restaurant.

Large windows bring in plenty of light to balance out Kimonos’ deep color palette. Fun fact: cats tend to hang around outside the restaurant, so you might be able to spot one when you’re there!

One thing to note is that Kimonos is more of a lounge or bar than a typical restaurant. While guests of all ages are welcome, it may not be the ideal place for families with young children.

If you ask us, we could EASILY spend several hours relaxing and eating here with friends and family.

Eats

Kimonos’ menu includes a wide array of sushi, beverages, and Japanese specialties. The sushi is definitely the biggest draw of Kimonos, but they also offer soups, salads, and several other appetizers and small plates.

Starting things off with the Raspberry Sake Sangria, this drink was fresh and fruity without being too sweet! It’s a refreshing concoction for a warm summer day.

What trip to a sushi joint would be complete without a piping hot bowl of Miso Soup?! The soup was nice and hot, providing plenty of great flavor. This is always a great starter at Kimonos.

Another great starter was the Seaweed Salad. The salad had a nice crunch from the cucumbers and a light touch of sweetness.

The Wagyu Beef Satay was a universal hit with our group!

The dish includes three perfectly cooked skewers of Wagyu beef and scallions on a bed of miso mustard and clamshell mushrooms. The whole thing is then topped with fresh slaw.

This dish is absolutely delicious and we can HIGHLY recommend it. Give it a try the next time you’re at Kimonos!

We continued our evening with the star of Kimonos’ menu – the SUSHI. The Vegetarian Summer Roll is a non-raw sushi option, stuffed with fresh veggies and served with ponzu sauce (a citrusy soy sauce).

We asked for spicy mayo with our dish – go ahead and ask your server for it for an extra kick!

The other sushi dish we tried was the Plated Sushi Platter, which includes a LOT of sushi.

The platter includes samples of the following menu items in addition to two pieces of Fresh Salmon Nigiri: Dragon Roll, Asparagus Roll, Bagel Roll, and Spicy Rainbow Roll.

The variety of options included is great for sharing and provides plenty of tasting opportunities for those new to sushi. The sushi was beautifully plated and tasty as well. We loved the Bagel Roll, which featured salmon, cream cheese, and cucumber. The Dragon Roll was gorgeous, made with tuna and giant crispy shrimp!

All the food we tried at Kimonos was beautiful, fresh and delicious! If you’re a long time fan of sushi or a newbie looking for a great spot to tip your toes into the world of the Japanese specialty, this spot won’t disappoint.

Overall

The Kimonos menu offers a wide array of items and different price points to accommodate many budgets. While some items like the Wagyu Beef Satay can be pricey (the price is dependent on market value), other items like the Vegetarian Summer Roll and the Tuna Roll are $5.50 and $7.00, respectively.

This may not be the best option for guests on the Disney Dining Plan or for families with young children, but we think Kimonos is a must-do for sushi lovers at Walt Disney World.
