We love whenever we see Disney doing a charity event or encouraging volunteer involvement within communities, and they tend to go big when they do! Most memorably, Disney World set a world record with a sculpture made of 115,527 canned goods to donate in 2010. Well, with Family Volunteer Day, a global day of community service, happening this weekend; there are a bunch of fun ways to pay it forward and celebrate volunteering in the Disney parks!

Disney Springs in Disney World will be buzzing with celebrations! At 10:30 AM at the Marketplace Stage, you can join Mickey Mouse and friends and Disney exec, Bob Chapek, in celebrating the Disney and Points of Light Volunteer Family of the Year, the Aguirre family. The Aquirre family started a nonprofit called Emily’s Meals which provides food to 40 homeless people every day. Talk about community superstars!

After that, guests can head to Volunteer Village, set up just for Family Volunteer Day, to support local nonprofits. Between 11 AM and 2 PM, help build a Lego mural for Clean the World (a global hygiene nonprofit), write postcards for Operation Uplift, join the Disney Conservation Fund in a nature activity, and learn more about getting involved. Volunteer participants will even get special offers around Disney Springs!

Family Volunteer Day is also a great day to pick up some toys and candy! That’s because Once Upon a Toy and Goofy’s Candy Company will donate $1 from every transaction to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. That’s probably THE best excuse to buy candy of all time.

The celebrations are happening on the west coast too! At Disney California Adventure, guests can visit between 10 AM and 2 PM to make badges for Inside the Outdoors. Or, if you’re in Anaheim on Saturday, you can work with Disney VoluntEARS between 12 PM and 2 PM. Head to Farmers Park to pack comfort kits for Mercy House or head to Eucalyptus Park to pack kits for Chrysalis. Cast Members in both parks and beyond will be giving back too in celebration of the events!

If you can’t be in either park for Family Volunteer Day but still want to join in, then we have good news! Volunteer with your fam in your community and then post a pic with #VolunteerTogether (don’t forget to tag @DisneyParks)! Overall, the Family Volunteer Day festivities look like a fun time and a great way to learn about getting involved.
