What EXACTLY Is Going On With Rise of the Resistance? Here’s What You Need To Know About Disney’s Most Anticipated Ride EVER.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge finally opened the gates to Batuu in Disney World this past month!

And, while Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run has allowed guests to pilot the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy, we can’t help but wonder… What is the newest attraction coming to Galaxy’s Edge, the Rise of the Resistance, going to be like? Will the Force be with it, or will it give in to the dark side of Disney misses?

With Galaxy’s Edge open in Disney parks on both coasts, fans have been eagerly waiting for the arrival of Rise of the Resistance to join its Smugglers Run counterpart.

There have been numerous rumors about the attraction regarding its possible 20+ minute ride time, 4+ ride systems, over 300 animatronic figures, and more. But, Disney has only released a limited amount of information and a few concept photos.

Back in April at the Star Wars Celebration, we got our first look at the ride vehicle led by an Astromech Droid. (What a cutie!!) It utilizes stadium style seating with two rows containing four seats each with seat belts. While we were informed that this would be a part of the trackless ride system, we had to wait to find out what was next for the attraction.

However, at the D23 Expo in August, audience members were given a lil sneak peek at a new trailer for the ride. Some light was shed on the ride’s plot, which made us SUPER HYPED for how awesome this ride could turn out to be!! Vi Moradi, a Resistance spy, informs rebel guests at the beginning of the trailer that “This outpost is endangered for the First Order. The Resistance needs your help… Now, more than ever. Thank you for joining the cause, and may the Force be with us.”

You catch glimpses of ride scenes where you encounter Storm Troopers, that trackless car driving you through a Star Destroyer, Kylo Ren‘s lightsaber cutting through the ceiling above your vehicle, and Storm Troopers and AT-AT Walkers shooting at you during your apparent escape.

After that trailer, we were even more excited to be able to go INSIDE the Rise of the Resistance during a media event! We gave you our first look at the beginning and conclusion of the ride, so beware of spoilers ahead if you want to be surprised!

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Rise of the Resistance is located in a wooded area near the Black Spire Outpost where rebels are hiding out in a military outpost to stay under the radar from the First Order. After going through the queue with gun turrets, rock tunnels, and locker rooms filled with flight suits, you’ll experience a pre-show that features Rey, BB-8, and other Star Wars characters as they ask for your help to battle the First Order.

Immediately afterward, guests will walk through the second part of the ride led by Poe Dameron to his ship. You’ll pass by a giant X-Wing to board a transport ship to leave Batuu that shakes during its flight piloted by Nien Nunb. The ship is blue and gray inside with blue lighting. It almost reminds us of Star Tours, but guests will be standing versus seated. But, just like any Star Wars-related attraction, your plans are thwarted as the First Order intercepts your ship (oh no!).

They pull you inside their ship and you’re forced into…nothing short of awe-inspiring. As soon as the door opens, ominous Dark Side music plays as you’re ushered onto the Star Destroyer to be greeted by an entire army of over 50 Storm Troopers and guards (both audioanimatronic and human!), including General Hux and Kylo Ren according to Imagineers.

This room is MASSIVE. A huge screen looks out into space with a life-size TIE Fighter fastened to the wall. The First Order officers will then separate guests into small groups and escort them into detention cells where Kylo Ren will interrogate them.

Of course, the Resistance swoops in, though, to help guests escape (yay!!). Navigation droids will try to guide you out of the Star Destroyer, but they’ll keep taking wrong turns. Obviously, this will get you into more trouble as you try to dodge AT-ATs, take an elevator 40 feet into the air, wind through hallways, and finally make it to escape pods.

This will be the thrilling conclusion to Rise of the Resistance (a la Star Wars style) as the escape pod is positioned on a jettison that drops guests in one big drop, like the Tower of Terror! As you exit the experience, you’ll be hailed as a rebel hero (sounds like quite the title to put on your resumé)!

Um, how AH-MAZING does that sound?! And, luckily, the Rise of the Resistance opening is sooner than you’d think! The new attraction opens in Disney World on December 5th of this year and in Disneyland on January 17th of next year. Much excite!!!

While we can’t give our full review until we’ve taken a ride on the completed attraction, we can say that we are seriously anticipating the opening.
