The ULTIMATE GUIDE To The NEW Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure in Disneyland Resort!

Disney California Adventure’s Oogie Boogie Bash — A Disney Halloween Party officially kicked off THIS WEEK. And though all of the parties are sold out… 🙁 we had the opportunity to check out all of the spooktacular NEW and returning offerings — and it’s SO. FUN!

Oogie Boogie Bash

I’m not gonna lie, this party was pretty incredible. So, grab a candy bar…or two and get ready for all the NEED to KNOW details about DCA’s Oogie Boogie Bash.

The party was filled with SO many different meet-and-greets, shows, and snacks, that it felt impossible to see or to do it all. Honestly, we felt like we could have used another solid hour or two!

Oogie Boogie Bash

But, heck we’re not complaining. The event kept us entertained and we really enjoyed the shows and interactions that we were able to watch or be a part of.

Shows and Events

Villainous!

The new “World of Color” show, known as Villainous! shares the tale of Shelley Marie. Shelley is a young girl trying to make a decision about what Halloween costume she should wear this year. She begins to wonder if she could be as unique and independent as her favorite Disney characters.

Shelley

This ultimately takes Shelley on a fun and unforgettable journey where she meets a slew of Disney villains, ultimately showing guests that there’s a little villain in all of us.

Villainous!

The show is filled with wonderful music, water, projections, FIRE, lights, and so much more.

Villainous!

Now…note that there are two showings of Villainous! The first is VERY crowded, while the second show tends to have fewer viewers.

Villainous!

So it might make sense to do all the OTHER fun stuff first, then watch Villainous during the later show to avoid the crowds.

Villains Grove

Villains Grove was a highlight of our Oogie Boogie Bash experience. This is pretty much a maze with different projections and themes throughout.

Villains Grove Sign

The maze is filled with different villainous scenes and each one is presented through lights, projection, etc. The overall effect was STUNNING. We loved getting lost in each scene and feeling as if we had been transported into another film.

Cheshire Cat

We were so happy that this experience felt laid back and relaxed. No one is there to really rush you through it, so take your time and enjoy!

Queen of Hearts

There was a LONG line to get in for this one. So you may want to knock it out at the beginning of the night if this is one of your priorities.

Trick-or-Treat Trails

This year, Disney introduced an interactive element to their trick or treat trails by adding in Disney villains. These villains will sing, dance, and even chat with you on the rare occasion. Though villains have been added, they did not act in a menacing way…so no worries if you have little ones! We still thought it was very family-friendly.

Dr. Facilier

There are five interactive treat trails and each one features a different Disney villain. This year, the treat trails were hosted by Dr. Facilier, Oogie Boogie, The Mad Hatter (not really a villain, but okay), Evil Queen, and Maleficient.

Mad Hatter

The sets created for each of the villains was phenomenal and really made it feel as if you were a part of their story.

Oogie Boogie

We found that it was a hit or miss when it came to lines. Some of the lines were very long for the treat trails, while others were pretty short. (Often at the beginning of the evening lines are SUPER long; then, once everyone’s filled their candy bags, lines get shorter.) But, since you never really know what to expect, be sure to plan flexibly enough to leave if the line’s too long and come back later.

Maleficent

Sadly, we felt a little rushed while on some of the treat trails. We were really hoping to interact more with the characters, but the Cast Members were really keeping the flow of the lines moving. I mean, how many times do you have the chance to talk to Oogie Boogie or The Mad Hatter?

The Evil Queen

While we felt a bit rushed on the treat trails, we felt like they provided us with an ample amount of candy! Like bags and bags full of candy!

Trick or Treat Bags With CANDY!

So, if you’re looking for immersion, villains, AND candy, then this should definitely go on your must-do list.

The DescenDANCE Party

DescenDANCE Party, which is also making a beat at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Disney World, was a fun new addition here as well.

DescenDANCE Party Showtimes

The show starts with a spell, which summons the dance crew from the Isle of the Lost! These dancers lead everyone in moves set to songs from the Descendants films and they will encourage the crowd to dance and sing along.

DescenDANCE Party

Once the dance crew is summoned back, the Backlot DJ keeps the party going with some poppin’ music!

DescenDANCE Party

While we felt a little out of place, we think that this would be a great thing for the little ones. It’s very lighthearted and is a good option, especially if villains freak out your kiddos.

DescenDANCE Party

We checked out the very first dance party and it seemed to be pretty empty. If you’re looking for more people to dance around with, we suggest going to a later show!

Frightfully Fun Parade

The “Frightfully Fun Parade” has moved from Disneyland and is now taking over Disney California Adventure.

Frightfully Fun Parade

We always love Disney’s incredible attention to detail within the parade. Each float and section feels well thought out and makes it feel like a bit of each film portrayed has come to life before you.

The Mayor of Halloween Town

Our hearts seem to skip a beat when the evil sea witch herself takes to the street.

Ursula

We also loved seeing Disney’s newest addition to the Frightfully Fun Parade — Cheshire, finish the parade off.

Cheshire Cat

This is a nice option for those of you who are looking to take a break. Sit, stand, or chill for a bit and just take in the sights and magic that Disney has to offer with this one!

Jack and Sally

The streets can fill up pretty fast, so if you’re looking to sit down, you may want to snag a spot early.

Mickey’s Trick and Treat Show

An addition that really surprised us was Mickey’s Trick and Treat Show. While we thought that this would be aimed more at the little ones, Mickey and his pals had us up and dancing from the start!

Mickey’s Trick & Treat Party Showtimes

The show only lasted 15 minutes, but it was filled with dancing, laughter, and a few Halloween stories. And the best part? The candy given to us at the end!!

Mickey’s Trick & Treat Show

Even if you don’t have little ones we suggest checking out this lighthearted and fun show. You can catch it five times throughout the night at the Disney Theatre in Hollywood Land.

Carthay Circle Halloween Magic

As you maneuver your way throughout Disney California Adventure you may want to take the time to stop by Carthay Circle.

Carthay Circle at Oogie Boogie Bash

The building is being brought to life throughout the night with incredible projections of bats, lightning, and so much more!

Carthay Circle

While this little show is simple, we thought it was rather spellbinding.

Character Meet and Greets

Villain and rare character lovers GET READY. We had the opportunity to see and meet so many different characters that we hardly ever see around the parks.

Gong Li

While trick-or-treating our way around Oogie Boogie Bash, we happened to see some spelltacular Disney friends. Many of which we weren’t expecting!

Claude Frollo

We saw Claude Frollo, Gong Li, Ron Stoppable and Kim Possible.

Ron Stoppable and Kim Possible

And Kingdom Hearts lovers, both Donald and Goofy were seen meeting in their Kingdom Hearts gear!! We found that this line could get pretty long, so plan accordingly!

Kingdom Hearts Goofy

We also spotted Governor Ratcliffe, Prince John, the Sheriff of Nottingham, and MORE.

Donald!

Honestly, we were impressed with the characters that are meeting this year. But the rare character lines were LONG, so be prepared my if you’re wanting to get those pics!

Merchandise

A BUNCH of merchandise was released for this new event.

New Oogie Boogie sipper!

We already shared that you can get the Oogie Boogie Ears and the Oogie Boogie Sipper throughout the Disney California Adventure, even if you aren’t attending the party.

Oogie Boogie Bash Ears

You can also get the ever so spooky Oogie Boogie Popcorn bucket! This thing is pretty stinkin’ rad; I mean his devilish eyes even light up! You can view ALL of the Halloween popcorn buckets at Disney World and Disneyland here.

Treats

My Bugs! My Bugs!

Spooky season at Disneyland Resort also calls for TREATS. A few of our favorite Oogie Boogie-themed treats this year are the My Bugs! My Bugs! drink, the Oogie Boogie Cake Pop, and the Oogie Boogie Churro. And the great news?! These are available throughout the Halloween season, so you don’t need a party ticket to try them out.

My Bugs! My Bugs!

My Bugs! My Bugs! is a non-alcoholic drink that can be found at Hollywood Lounge. This is a limeade slush swirled with cherry syrup and adorable wiggly gummy worms for $5.99.

Oogie Boogie Cake Pop

The Oogie Boogie Cake Pop ($5.49) can be found at Trolley Treats. This little guy isn’t filled with bugs; instead, he’s filled with vanilla cake!

Oogie Boogie Cake Pop

We love the bright green color and the attention to detail!

Oogie Worms and Dirt Funnel Cake

And perfect for the little ones is the Oogie Worms and Dirt Funnel Cake. These funnel cake fries, which can be found at Award Wieners for $8.99, are topped with crushed chocolate creme-filled cookiescream cheese sauce, cookie piecesgummy candieschocolate-coated candies, and whipped cream.

Oogie Worms and Dirt Funnel Cake Fries

These are sweet, messy, and yummy if you like you’re a sucker for funnel cake fries.

And if you’re looking for MORE Halloween Time treats that will be available throughout the season, you can check them all out here!!

We really think that Oogie Boogie Bash is a great option if you love Disney villains and if you’re looking to load up on some candy. The shows and the character offerings really did blow us away and we think that it has the potential to be a lot of fun for the whole family.

Oogie Boogie

I’d avoid Oogie Boogie Bash if you have little ones who have an early bedtime, or get tired out quickly…because it really was a go-go-go to see it all kind of event. Also, if you’ve got kiddos who are afraid of the villains, they were pretty much everywhere, so they’re pretty difficult to avoid. Though, Mickey’s Trick and Treat Show and the DescenDANCE Party were villain free!

Overall, this is a really fun addition to Halloween Time in Disneyland Resort! And remember for next year — get your tickets EARLY if you’d like to go! All dates are sold out for this year at the moment.
