Review and Pics! New Menu Debuts at Tangaroa Terrace and Trader Sam’s in Disneyland Resort

Yesterday, we shared that a NEW menu had debuted at Tangaroa Terrace and at Trader Sam’s!

Tangaroa Terrace

Today, we’re BACK to review all the new goodies and to give you the yummy…or not so yummy details.

Both Tangaroa Terrace and Trader Sam’s are located the Disneyland Hotel. These Polynesian and American-inspired locations both feature the same lunch and dinner menu, meaning that you’ll be able to test out these new menu items at both locations.

Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar

We love sitting outside and relaxing while chowing down on some yummy food. And both spots offer such nice escapes, especially if you’re looking to get away from the standard “Disney” vibe.

So, let’s journey to Disneyland’s tropical hideaways together to try out some new food!!

The New Menu

Tangaroa Terrace

There are a bunch of new menu additions, which include the Poke Bowl, Hawaiian Platter, Tonkotsu Ramen, Little Gem Salad, and Tongo Salad. The well-known Hawaiian Cheeseburger is now being served as a 1/2 Lb. burger instead of a 1/3 Lb. burger!

The PuPu Platter now comes with a macaroni salad. Disney has also added the Tempura Shrimp to the menu.

Trader Sam’s

These new food options have been added to the menu over at Trader Sam’s as well. So, you can chow down on a Poke Bowl or some Pork Gyoza while sipping on a delicious Trader Sam’s creation.

New Menu Items

We reviewed the Poke Bowl, Rongo Salad, Tonkotsu Ramen, and Tempura Shrimp. We were really looking forward to trying the new Hawaiian Platter, but sadly it was unavailable today.

Tangaroa Terrace

Poke Bowl

The Poke Bowl ($15) is made with sushi rice, onions, avocado, cucumber, Masago fish roe, and crab salad. Ours was also served with tofu since the salmon was sadly unavailable for some reason.

Poke Bowl

We LOVED this new addition as it was light and refreshing. All of the veggies were fresh. And you best like some fish eggs because it’s A LOT of roe… We will definitely be getting this dish again.

Poke Bowl

Since you’re able to substitute the meats out, we think that this is a GREAT option for vegans or vegetarians. Your choices are Salmon, Marinated Tofu, or Ahi Tuna.

Rongo Salad

The Rongo Salad ($12) comes with edamame, green papaya, iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes, gooseberries, crispy shallots, sesame seeds, and marinated tofu, served with a fermented miso vinaigrette.

Rongo Salad

We thought that this was an explosion of citrus flavor! We loved how everything blended together, though we weren’t too fond of the addition of the gooseberries. For some reason, they just didn’t seem to match the flavors of the rest of the salad.

Rongo Salad

This was a large dish and could easily be shared between family or friends.

Tonkotsu Ramen

The Tonkotsu Ramen ($15) is made with a pork-based broth, wavy noodles, pork belly slices, green onions, mushrooms, fish cake, black garlic oil, and egg…though our egg was forgotten.

Tonkotsu Ramen

We felt like something was slightly off with our ramen because the broth had NO flavor. This was a big disappointment because we’re all about that broth.

But, there were a few redeeming factors! The pork was cooked well and we really enjoyed the noodles. But hey, how could you not love a good noodle? I mean, carbs are life!

Tempura Shrimp

The Tempura Fried Shrimp ($19) is made with dried togarashi, crispy garlic, and Ponzu sauce.

Tempura Shrimp

While we liked the taste of these little shrimps, the batter was very THICK. And in comparison to everything else we tried today, this ranked LOW on our list. They just weren’t the best and we felt like they were a little pricey for what was being offered.

Overall

It seems as though the location has moved in a healthier direction by offering more lighter options. Overall, we feel like the new menu offers a great number of choices, especially for vegetarians and those who enjoy seafood.

We think that this will be a difficult location to dine at if you aren’t a big fan of seafood or Polynesian-type dishes. Luckily, the Hawaiian Burger is still on the menu, and we’ve always really enjoyed it! You can read our full review here.
