Tips You NEED to Know for Visiting Disney World’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on Opening Day!

Tomorrow is the big day! Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will FINALLY open in Walt Disney World!!!

Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge at Night

Today, we celebrated the dedication of Hollywood Studios’ Galaxy’s Edge. Bright and early tomorrow morning the new land will officially open to the public! If you’re one of the brave souls ready to make the lightspeed jump to Batuu for opening day, we’ve gathered some of the most important tips you need to know to ensure you have a successful day navigating Black Spire Outpost in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Bright Suns, friends! If you’re planning to step foot on Batuu on opening day, there are a few things you NEED to know to help your day go smoothly. We’re arming you with tips to ensure you’ll navigate opening day with more ease than Han Solo can navigate the Millenium Falcon.

Set That Alarm EARLY!

Everything is opening WAY early tomorrow, y’all. Like, you may as well not go to sleep tonight — that early!

Many quick-service locations at resorts will be opening at 2:30 am to help get you fed so you can hurry up and wait to get into Galaxy’s Edge. This may be a good time to snag one of the new Galaxy’s Edge treats that will be released for the opening! If you’re staying in a Disney World resort, be sure to swing by their quick-service spot and see if any signs are up indicating an early opening or ask a Cast Member.

Market at Ale and Compass

We’ve been told bus and boat service to Hollywood Studios will begin running at 3:30 AM.

Boat Times for Galaxy’s Edge Opening

So you can grab some food, hop on a boat or bus and hopefully queue up for your spot to enter Hollywood Studios for the 6 AM opening.

Disney MAY Utilize a “Boarding Pass” System if Needed

Disney hasn’t released any details on how they plan to combat potentially excessive crowds at Galaxy’s Edge, but if we take a cue from how things went in Disneyland for their opening, there’s a chance a virtual queue will be used. IF Disney chooses to implement this, there are a few key things you’ll need to know.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney World

We don’t know yet if Disney will allow guests to queue up like they have in the past for openings like Toy Story Land. When Galaxy’s Edge hit capacity in Disneyland, they turned to a virtual queuing system that allowed guests to reserve a spot in line on their phones. When their turn to visit came up, guests would receive a notification telling them they had 2 hours to enter Galaxy’s Edge.

Black Spire Outpost

IF this happens in Disney World, expect to have it show up in your My Disney Experience app once in Hollywood Studios (so keep your phone handy). Virtual queueing in Disneyland required ALL GUESTS in your party to be present to enter, so keep your peeps close by just in case.

Download the Play Disney Parks App Before You Go

A big part of the fun of Galaxy’s Edge is interacting with the characters and the land. The Play Disney Parks app is designed to be heavily utilized in Galaxy’s Edge for this very reason, and it takes a bit of fiddling with it to get the hang of it. The app is relatively big and likely WAY easier to download from home or your resort. You can have it at the ready to turn into your Datapad once you step foot on Batuu!

Use your Play Disney Parks Datapad to translate!

Be sure to print our handy dandy guide to the sayings on Batuu before you go as well! We want to be sure you can properly converse with your Resistance friends (or First Order…no judgment here!) you meet on the planet.

How to (Maybe!) Get into Oga’s Cantina or Savi’s Workshop

A few weeks back, Disney opened up online reservations for Oga’s Cantina and Savi’s Workshop. They booked up FAST. If you want to check out Black Spire’s local Cantina or build a lightsaber of your own, you’ll need a reservation to get into these experiences. BUT, we’re hopeful that guests might be allowed to head to these locations right at opening to try and score a spot as a walk-in.

A Retched Hive of Scum and Villainy… and Tasty Drinks!

An important thing to note about Oga’s: Disney World has placed a 45-minute, 2 drink limit per guest in Oga’s Cantina.

Check out our first look at Disney World’s Oga’s Cantina HERE!

Note that dining locations in Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge do have a few slightly different offerings on their menus than what we saw in Disneyland. We spotted an alcoholic provision in Oga’s, as well as a new dip to go with Batuu Bits. Disney World is much more open to guests walking around with alcohol, so a few new alcoholic drink options are available throughout Batuu as well.

Rodian Ration in Oga’s

Droid Depot also accepts advance online reservations, but note that you do NOT need a reservation to enter the shop and walk around. You only need one if you plan to build and purchase a droid.

FastPass+ Tiers in Hollywood Studios Change August 29th

If you’re waiting to get into Galaxy’s Edge or enjoying the rest of Hollywood Studios, it’s important to note that FastPass+ tiers in Hollywood Studios are changing TOMORROW!

Tower of Terror

Most rides in the park, excluding Star Tours, are now going to be considered Tier 1meaning you can only make ONE selection from this group. This is a hard blow for fans of Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster since prior to the change these were both Tier 2, leaving your Tier 1 FastPass for a “bigger” ride. Now, guests will have to choose from Star Tours and the park’s variety of shows for their other two FastPasses.

Also, keep in mind the attractions in Galaxy’s Edge — Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (not opening until December 5th) — will NOT initially be available on the FastPass+ system. On the bright side, though, Millennium Falcon’s single rider line may be open!

Will you be joining the crowds projected to hit Galaxy’s Edge tomorrow? We’ll be there with LIVE UPDATES, so check back with DFB throughout the day. In the meantime, you can watch our first look at Walt Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge below!
