NEWS: Virtual Queue and Boarding Groups Are In Use For Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney World

WOW! The opening day of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood  Studios is FINALLY here — and the general public will finally have the opportunity to explore the planet of Batuu, sip on creative concoctions at Oga’s Cantina, and fly the Millennium Falcon.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney World

Though we have known about all of the exciting shops, attractions, and dining locations that the land offers, one question has been stuck in our mind. How do you get it?! And Disney has FINALLY answered this question today!

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is going to use a virtual queue system when the land is at capacity. Like Disneyland, this virtual queue will load by Boarding Group — you can read more about how this operated in Disneyland here. This action kicks in once the land has reached capacity.

The land will either have an open or closed status. Guests can check this status on their My Disney Experience App. Open means that Boarding Groups are not in use at the time and that anybody is welcome to enter the land. Closed means that boarding groups are in place. If you have not done so — UPDATE YOUR MY DISNEY EXPERIENCE APP or you will not see this screen.

There have also been Boarding Group display boards installed at Hollywood Studios, so if you don’t have the My Disney Experience App these boards will be your best bet!

But what about people who have an Oga’s, Droid Depot, or Savi’s reservation? We’ve gotten very mixed information on this and will be reporting back today!

Honestly, this system worked SO well at Disneyland. It helps to limit crowds when you’re inside the land and gives you the opportunity to experience the rest of Hollywood Studios instead of waiting in line.

For a bit more information on how this virtual queue system is going to operate, here’s how Disney describes it.

  1. “Ensure that you have the latest version of the My Disney Experience app downloaded. Enable push notifications to be notified when it is your turn to enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.”
  2. “Launch the app and look for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge status and access.”
  3. “If the land is open, proceed directly to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge via the entrance on Grand Avenue. If access for the land is via Boarding Group Only, then select to join the boarding group.”
  4. “Receive a push notification when your group is called. You can also check the digital status boards throughout the park.”
