Is Another Major Star Wars Plot Twist Coming in The Rise of Skywalker??
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will officially hit theatres on December 20, 2019, and yesterday D23 Expo attendees were shown a not-yet-released reel of the film.
In it our heroine, Rey, is seen wielding a double-sided RED lightsaber. Is Rey headed to the Dark Side?
In short, our guess is no. But, let’s dive a little deeper into the rest of what was seen at D23, shall we?
Most of the reel was about Rey training and learning to use the Force. She also talks about how it’s the younger generation’s turn to protect the galaxy. But, that’s where things seem to change, turning into more of an edge-of-your-seat, heart-pumping sizzle reel.
Because at the end, Rey is seen wearing a dark cloak as she wields a double-sided red lightsaber. During this intense moment, the Emperor is saying, “now your journey nears its end” while Darth Vader’s breathing plays in the background.
So, after that, you can see why people are considering the possibility of another major Star Wars character transformation. Climactic plot twists are kind of the hallmark of the Star Wars franchise, right? But remember Return of the Jedi? Luke also had a moment where he struggled with darkness, wore black, and (spoiler alert?) even chopped off his father’s hand. But everything righted itself in the end. Sort of. It’s all about selling tickets after all.
The sizzle reel will officially be released to the public on Monday, so then you’ll have the opportunity to judge for yourself!
