What’s New at Epcot: Construction Updates, New Themed Jackets, and Food & Wine Festival Booths are Going Up!
We’re journeying to Epcot today, where — just a spark from me to you — you’re going to want to scroll all the way through the day’s What’s New. We’ve got Windbreakers (yes, the 80s are back… but make it Disney), miles (not exactly but almost) of construction fencing, and FOOD BOOTHS ARE GOIN’ UP! Let’s see if we can light your fancy, shall we?
Epcot Food Updates
Over at Sunshine Seasons, the Chocolate Oreo Mousse has a new look. Previously it was served in a small bowl with a chocolate curl on top.
Now it’s served up in a small plastic cup (like those verrines over in Disney’s Hollywood Studios!), and there’s a lot more Oreo Cookie crumble going on.
Joy of Tea at the China Pavilion in World Showcase is currently offering Lychee Iced Black Tea with Mango-Flavored Coconut Jelly.
Over at the Germany Pavilion, the festival food booth is still selling beer and pretzels and has been named — wait for for it — Bier und Brezeln. Yeah, that’s Beer and Pretzels.
And FYI: the second beer cart at Germany is still missing.
At Kabuki Cafe in the Japan Pavilion, we noticed some new-to-us paper cups in use for the refreshing Kaki Gori. (Click here to read about these icy treats!) I do find that they kind of cycle through different containers here, so you never really know what you’re going to get.
In Canada at Le Cellier, we noticed a few updates to the menu. The current World Showcase Poutine is Inspired by Flavors of France. It’s a remix on the Croque Madame so there will be an egg! Le Cellier has also added French Onion Soup, a Baby Iceberg Wedge Salad, and Summer Tomato and Watermelon Salad. Three menu items have returned: Artisan Cheese Plate, Maple Whiskey Glazed Brussels Sprouts, and Seared George’s Banks Scallops.
And like the Beer and Pretzels booth in Germany that’s outlived the Flower and Garden Festival, a food booth in Canada has been given a name: Fresh Popped Corn.
Fresh Popped Corn sells… popcorn, regular and Maple! Also on the menu: Le Cellier Batch #5 Ketchup Chips, Coke products, bottled water, and alcoholic beverages including Le Fin Du Monde.
What’s New in Epcot Construction Updates
In Epcot construction news, the playground that was themed to Toy Story for Epcot Flower and Garden Festival has lost the character overlay but otherwise remained the same.
This is a great spot to let the kiddos run out some energy (especially if you’re about to embark on a trip around World Showcase!).
There aren’t any slides or swings, but you’ll find balance equipment, hands-on activity boards, and climbers.
In space restaurant news: there’s no visible progress. Scaffolding remains up on this exterior portion that we can see, and there’s open (as in not-yet-enclosed) construction on the left.
It’s more of the same over at the Guardians of the Galaxy coaster: not much discernible progress on the exterior, though we’re sure there’s lots of exciting change to come!
This is the attraction’s current view from the parking lot.
In big construction news that will alter how you get around the Park, a long swath of construction fencing and wall has gone up from Journey into the Imagination toward Character Spot and around, blocking off the path heading into World Showplace.
From this angle you can see how long this fencing is. It runs along the area that’s turned into a floral carpet during Flower and Garden and blocks off a path where you’d typically find some food booths during Festivals.
Either end of the fence is blocked by a sturdier wall.
Looking back toward Future World, you can see just how extensive the fencing is and spot some construction equipment in the area.
During the closure, the path between Future World and World Showcase is blocked, and you’ll either have to walk all the way around or cut through the Character Spot/Club Cool building. (We say cut through because air conditioning.)
In Epcot International Food and Wine Festival News, a few food booths are up! The Festival begins on August 29, so we’ll keep watching and updating as they come to fruition!
Click here to see which booths we’ve spotted in addition to China and Morocco!
At the American Adventure Pavilion, Liberty Inn is officially behind construction walls as a refurbishment begins transforming the space into a BBQ joint called Regal Eagle Smokehouse: Craft Drafts & Barbecue.
Click HERE to Read All About Regal Eagle!
Disney says Regal Eagle will have “all the accompanying sights, sounds, smells and flavors you love – including a large smoker preparing fine food every day right on the pavilion’s promenade.” Suffice to say we’re hungry already.
Over in Canada, scaffolding is still up in front of the stonework on the right side of the pavilion where O Canada, the pavilion’s circlevision film, is shown.
O Canada will stop running temporarily later this summer, as a new film is created for the attraction. During Epcot’s International Food and Wine Festival, the O Canada theater will serve as an air conditioned space to relax.
No official word on what work is happening behind the scaffolding, but we expect it’s for maintenance of the ‘stone’.
What’s New in Epcot Merchandise
We told you about these fun windbreaker jackets ($49.99) we spotted in Mouse Gear yesterday. They’re light and come in some super fun designs. Click here for more details!
Fantasyland is represented by this colorful design.
And the Pixar Luxo Ball makes a huge, graphic statement!
Jungle Cruise gets some love with this yellow, green, and white version.
And the Purple Wall in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland serves as inspiration for this pretty design.
New leggings designs ($39.99) have arrived in merch locations at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort. Mouse Gear has a full display of leggings with coordinating tee shirts. Click here for a closer look at the collection!
The Disney Parks snacks leggings showcase Dole Whip, churros, Mickey Pretzels, cookies, and Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bars.
And these colorful Mickey Balloon leggings are sure to be a hit!
Yeah, the fun doesn’t stop there. Click here for close-ups of the other designs!
Mouse Gear also has some fun new-to-us sleeping masks. Mickey, Minnie, and Sleeping Beauty are represented. And while we think these are fun and, for many, practical, there’s another feature you’ll want to know about…
They’re holographic, so Mickey and Minnie wink.
At $12.99, we think the price is a little steep, but if they help you sleep, there’s really no price you can put on that!
We spotted several Epcot and attractions phone cases ($39.99) at Mouse Gear. Some have already been seen at CoOp in Disney Springs. We’re partial to this retro Epcot case.
But we know a lot of you will head straight for the Three Caballeros!
Perhaps you’ll fly away with the Soarin’ Around the World version!
Of course, you could put your phone through its paces with the Test Track model.
But if you miss Universe of Energy already, you can get this retro design!
And that’s that! We hope this What’s New has set your imaginations free! And stick around because we’ve got even more What’s New for you this weekend!
