What’s New at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Wilderness Lodge: Dining Changes, Donut Art Updates, Scavenger Hunts, and More!

We’re visiting two of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom-area Resorts: Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Wilderness Lodge. These Resorts couldn’t be more dissimilar in style, so let’s explore What’s New!

Disney’s Contemporary Resort

What’s New in Contemporary Resort Dining

We spotted this sophisticated Dulce de Leche Cupcake at Contempo Cafe, where the cupcake case is always full of fun, delicious options. Seriously, the pastry chefs at Contempo really keep the selections interesting, so even if you’re just strolling around the Contemporary like we were, it’s worth a peek. See our review here!

Also at Contempo Cafe: promo cards for Mobile Order. You’ll recall that Mobile Order has been implemented in select Resort quick service locations (see more here!), and Contempo is one such location.

We’ve seen these cards at other mobile order locations, but now they’re promoting this wave-of-the-future at Contempo!

Located on the first floor of the Contemporary tower, Contemporary Grounds is a convenient, quick spot to grab a coffee, tea, hot chocolate, slushy, or pastry.

We spotted some delicious-looking sweet treats, including an Apple Crisp Tart and Almond Croissant.

We also spied a Boston Cream Donut which typically has chocolate frosting on top. But the white serves a purpose here…

Latte Art is that cool design guests can pay a little extra for that prints an image on the top of a latte. At Contemporary Grounds, the art can also be printed on these Boston Cream Donuts! But there’s a bit of controversy about the donut artwork, which we spotted for the first time last month. Disney has stopped allowing its characters to be printed on the donuts, even as licensed Disney characters can still be printed on appropriate beverages.

Latte and Donut Art Options

But the cast member at Contemporary Grounds gave us a look at the tablet of other designs that remain available as Donut Art, and there are actually loads of fun options — just no characters. Also note: the cast member said these designs are possible as Latte Art, too, so if you’re not looking to add character to your drink or donut, you may want to ask about additional options!

Allergy menus aren’t new, but while we were in the Contemporary, we stopped into The Wave to take a look at theirs. If you or your crew have concerns about allergens at The Wave, click the images below to enlarge them!

What’s New in Contemporary Resort Activities

We snapped some pics of current Recreation Activities at the Contemporary. This is an awesome resort for activities, as its location on Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon allows for boating, fishing, and more. Click the image below to read more about what’s offered at the Resort.

On a separate placard, we spotted Lakeside Yoga and Water Aerobics — both complimentary activities for guests but limited to 15 guests only.

In other Resort activities, we recommend checking out some of the artwork! This Sorcerer Mickey topiary is a lot of fun.

But we love this happy guy even more! The Mickey Arch sculpture is a great place for some pics!

What’s New in Wilderness Lodge Dining

Over at Wilderness Lodge’s Roaring Fork, we spotted two sweet offerings for July 4th. This donut was loaded with crunchy, sugary bits that remind us of mining for gemstones!

The quick service spot celebrated the fourth with a cherry-filled cupcake in bright red, white, and blue. Click here to see what’s inside!

What’s New in Wilderness Lodge Activities

The Wilderness Lodge had two fun scavenger hunts going on when we visited. The Hidden Mickey Hunt takes place at the Boulder Ridge Villas (though you don’t have to be a DVC Member to participate!).

We completed ours and received this (retro!) Mickey- and Minnie-signed card! This is a great souvenir, especially since it’s got a seriously old-school vibe.

We also did the Roaring Fork scavenger hunt. A quick service restaurant with a scavenger hunt? This is our kind of place!

And we snapped a pic of July’s Resort Activities Guide. Click to enlarge if you’re heading to the Wilderness Lodge this month!

Disney Resorts Moment of Zen

And before we leave, we’d be remiss if we didn’t take a moment to thank you for reading and for following along on our DFB adventures. Here are two Wilderness Lodge moments of zen in case you need them. 😉
