Review: Pucker Your Lips For the NEW Sour Cherry Beignets in Disneyland!

Are you ready to dig into a new twist on a Disneyland classic?

New Orleans Square in Disneyland

Disney has some of the BEST beignets around. From Godiva Chocolate Liqueur Beignets to Fried Chicken and Beignets, the parks’ takes on the pastries are satisfying and delicious. So, when a new beignet makes an entrance in Disneyland, it’s got our name all over it. We hope you’re hungry, because we’re heading on down to New Orleans Square for a sour twist on a sweet classic!

The Sour Cherry Beignets have made a tart debut at the Mint Julep Bar.

The Sour Cherry Beignets

The pastry is covered in a pinkish red powder, and the taste impeccably fits the “sour” name tag. We were super jazzed to try these, but…unfortunately they were a bit of a miss.

While we usually are ready to indulge ourselves, one bite of this beignet left us feeling slightly disappointed. First up, let’s talk texture. Glancing at the beignets, we could see a visible difference in the powdered sugar as it was not nearly as fine as the traditional beignet. The sugar looked grainy and felt the same way upon taking a bite of the pastry.

The Extremely Tart Sugar On Top of the Beignets

The texture of the beignets itself was rougher than the traditional because of the sugar. The dessert didn’t quite melt in our mouths like it usually does.

And even though we could get past the texture, the taste gave us mixed feelings. The sugar tasted similar to Fun Dip Candy, right down to the extreme sourness. Compared to the recent Butterscotch Beignets that stayed true to the traditional texture and was consistent with taste, the Sour Cherry Beignets didn’t resemble beignets as much as warm, sugary bread.

A Peek Inside the Sour Cherry Beignets

Although we appreciate Disney’s creativity, this is certainly not a traditional beignet to be paired with coffee. We recommend grabbing water with the Sour Cherry Beignets to tone down the flavor.

While we think you should satisfy your curiosity once by tasting these pastries, the sourness was a bit of a miss for us! But be sure to let us know what YOU think!

The Mint Julep Bar

Since there’s no advertising for the dessert, a Cast Member informed us that you can purchase a 3-pack for $5.49 and a 6-pack for $9.60 at the Mint Julep Bar.
