Here’s How Oga’s Cantina Works Now That Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is Finally OPEN!
We’re back in Disneyland exploring Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on its first day of official openness!
At the top of our list when it came to our Galaxy’s Edge priorities were the two locations that still require a reservation: Oga’s Cantina and Savi’s Workshop.
Now Oga’s has been through some STUFF. Guests have been disgruntled about this spot since the beginning.
During the initial days when the land was open, the line at Oga’s was cut off two hours into the 4-hour reservation period much of the time as the line just too long and not everyone was going to be able to be accommodated.
As the month went on, things got more confusing. Guests were getting cards telling them when to return. Then a text message system was tried out. Then back to cards. And finally, we saw more frustrated guests than happy ones as people were spending their entire 4-hour window trying to get into the cantina…and then being turned away.
So now that the land is officially open and the cantina has real live reservations, bookable on the Disneyland app, what’s the deal? We tested the system today and we have a run-down for you!
Details About Oga’s Cantina
Oga’s Cantina is the land’s watering hole. It’s making Disneyland history as the first place outside of Club 33 and 21 Royal to serve alcohol.
Oga Garra, the alien proprietor, runs the place with an iron fist. You won’t see her in the cantina, but if you listen closely you just might hear her chatting outside and directing inside. Cast Members have the ability to lower the music in order to give Oga the opportunity to speak. And while waiting outside, you can sometimes hear her speaking from her office window high above the cantina.
When it comes to music and entertainment DJ R3X has got it covered.
How To Get Into Oga’s Cantina
So, how do I get a reservation?
Well, you can make a reservation via the Disneyland app or on Disneyland.com — just like you make any other dining reservation. You can simply search Oga’s Cantina Reservations. Once you do, you will see a blue “book experience” button. Click on that and you will be taken to a page that allows you to select a date and time. Once you do this, you can sift through times for availability.
As of right now, you can only make reservations for Oga’s Cantina on the day you wish to visit. You can currently start making these reservations beginning at 7 AM.
We tried to make our reservation this morning at 7 AM and had a difficult time. Now, this may have been an opening day glitch but within 10 minutes all of the reservations were gone. BUT, about an hour later we were easily able to get a reservation for the cantina. So, if you aren’t able to snag one when you first try…just keep refreshing because a time might pop up!
So once you have your covered reservation, the rest is pretty easy. Walk up and check in at the cantina for your reservation time. Once you do this, you will be handed a card.
Now, these cards won’t tell you where to sit or stand once inside; they’re simply just there to show that you have checked in. Once you get inside, you’ll be given a green card with your time of entry on it and a few other bits of information.
Inside Oga’s Cantina
There is a 45-minute time limit and they have continued to enforce the 2 drink limit inside Oga’s. But on our visit today, things had died down a bit and we didn’t see anyone get kicked out (not to say they wouldn’t do so if things were hoppin’).
Since there is no prior indication of where you will be seated, it’s looking like getting a decent spot is going to be like a game of roulette. So those standing at the bar for their 45 minutes will likely have a very different experience from those who get to chill at one of the booths. If you’ve had a different experience with seating, let us know in the comments.
Though we were told we might have to fight our way for a spot at the bar, the crowds really weren’t that bad, thanks to the reservation system.
We ordered a Bespin Fizz — which you can read about here — and stood at the bar for a while. And get this… while sipping on our bubbly drink we happened to spot Josh D’Amaro (the president of Disneyland)!
Important Things to Know
The drinks are all pre-made and on tap, so you’ve gotta order what’s on the menu. Also, the drinks are still not being served with straws (though you can request a paper one if ya need it).
And most importantly, all drinks must be finished inside the bar, they cannot be taken out of the cantina at all!
