Review! The NEW Version of Frangipane at Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie in Epcot’s France Pavilion

One question I am often asked is, “AJ, what do you eat in the parks when you aren’t gathering info for DFB readers?” My answer? Well, I have several favorites. And for years, one of them has been the Frangipane at Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie in Epcot’s France Pavilion.

Frangipane

Pictured above you’ll see the classic version I’ve loved ever since the first time I tried it. And I know what you’re thinking: “What’s the big deal?” But there’s always been more to this deceptively simple pastry than meets the eye.

As it turns out, though… my beloved Frangipane has been changed. The menu will still tell you that the Frangipane ($4.50 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit) is an “almond filling between puff pastry.”

No longer a triangle, we received a rectangular shape with far more topping than the slight dusting of sugar I’m accustomed to. The newly added coarse sugar on top lends the treat a crunch, and I didn’t mind the variation in texture. In fact, it added more texture than sweetness, which is great in that it’s still not an overly sweet treat.

And, thankfully, what makes the unassuming Frangipane so memorable — that incredible almond center formed with plenty of butter, sugar, and eggs — is still present in abundance within the light and flaky pastry.

Whew!

I’m happy to say that the Frangipane at Les Halles is still one of my top recommendations for great snacking in Epcot’s World Showcase!
