ALL THE TOYS! At Toydarian Toymaker in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!
We’re stepping into the Toydarian Toymaker to explore all the whimsy and wonder of TOYS in Black Spire Outpost in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!
Even in this village full of secrets and scoundrels, a kid’s still gotta play! And fortunately, local artisans on Batuu have crafted toys of all make and manner.
But before we explore the toys, let’s explore the setting! Zabaka the Toydarian has positively packed her shop with toys and collectibles to the point where the eye can barely take it all in, including those of her own making and pieces by local vendors.
This is no clean, crisp merchandise shop with neatly folded and stacked this-and-that. Piles of playful plunder are placed on makeshift tables and hang from the ceiling and on the walls.
Some of these hanging toys include models of the Millennium Falcon and TIE Fighters in the style of mobiles. (Hello, that would be fun!)
And puppet-ized Star Wars characters also hang from the ceiling, so be sure to look up!
Aside from the toys for sale, there are also toys-in-progress to check out, as Zabaka keeps busy with her craft. You’ll spot crates full of toymaking materials and in-progress playthings like a rocking tauntaun, for instance.
You may even spot Zabaka herself! Be sure to take a peek at the back window to see if you can spy her silhouette as she works on dolls and games like chance cubes and Sabacc.
In addition to the lived-in feel created by the in-progress toys, carpets and draperies also lend an element of coziness. This is distinctive in a village that can’t exactly be described as “cozy,” and it works!
In fact, Toydarian Toymakers is one of the most unique shops we’ve ever entered in a Disney Park. But cozy is the operative word. This shop is more like an alcove in the Market than a stand-alone shop. Space is definitely tight, and we would guess only about ten or so grown adults can fit and move comfortably in the space at a time.
But NOW… let’s talk TOYS!!
Crafted by local artisans, the pieces are unlike what we on earth might expect. Think cloth, wood, and tin for many of the items you’ll find. In earthly terms, they’re classic pieces and will make for some seriously cool collectibles for any fan’s Star Wars collection, young or young-at-heart.
Dolls and Figures
Zabaka has heard the tales that are told throughout the galaxy and has been able to create dolls based on those talked about in the stories. These hand-made-looking dolls include recognizable characters like Jabba the Hutt, Stormtroopers, Rey, Finn, Yoda, Kylo Ren, Chewbacca, and more.
Metal toys with that hand-made quality are available, too. Shoppers can bring home old-fashioned looking metal toys of podracers and Millennium Falcon that are — surprisingly! — not as pricey as we might expect.
Games
Also lining the wooden shelves are games — a wooden ball maze painted like the Millennium Falcon, a matching game with Star Wars characters painted on the wooden tiles, and ADD MORE HERE! These are fantastic souvenirs that provide fun like we maybe don’t see so much here on Earth with our mass-produced, packaged games and hand-held devices.
Other games include chance cubes and Sabacc cards — yup, Sabacc cards as seen in the franchise (it’s a favorite of Han Solo).
Instruments
Zabaka has also crafted musical instruments so you can form your very own Cantina band! Look for Ewok drums, wooden percussion pieces, and flutes.
And if you think your Toydarian toys will be wrapped up in typical Disney Parks fashion, think again. Packaging in this shop is as unique as the shop (and land!) itself!
Overall, Toydarian Toymaker is a fascinating addition to Black Spire Outpost. It’s a special moment, to select a toy that’s unique and imbued with the spirit of the place from which it comes. Toydarian Toymaker hits that mark for visitors to Batuu.
