How to Enjoy Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge if You’re NOT a Star Wars Fan!

Look, we’re thrilled that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is opening next month (!!) in Disneyland and three months later at Walt Disney World. But we know not everyone is itching to be part of the Star Wars universe. Indeed, some of us just don’t get the hype. But that doesn’t mean we won’t love Galaxy’s Edge — our love just might be for reasons separate from the franchise and its distinctive elements.

And we know you’re out there — the folks who just don’t really care about Star Wars. It’s OK! You can still have a blast at Galaxy’s Edge.

(Psst: If you DO want to take a crash course in the Galaxy’s Edge characters and storyline, we’ve got that for you right here! Just click here for the Cliffs Notes!)

Let’s take a look at how to prepare… .

We’re explorers at heart… just not intergalactic ones.

We can’t wait to explore a new land — regardless of the story behind it! Galaxy’s Edge is described as being immersive, and the best part of that is that immersion doesn’t necessarily require you to know what everything is. Mix up your BB-8 and your R2-D2? Who cares? They’re fun characters in a mystical world — and we can embrace that without worrying too much about who’s who. Not sure what Tatooine is? Or where it is? Or even why it is? 😉 No worries!

So the game plan: explore this new planet, Batuu! Tuck into the nooks and crannies of Black Spire Outpost, and see what you can find. Admire the architecture for its aesthetic forms separate from its fictional inspiration. Enjoy watching cast members and characters amaze in their ability to carry the story (even if you don’t care what the story is). Rest assured, there will be plenty to explore in this brand new land.

We’re hungry from all that exploring.

Hello, new land with its new food and new drinks, we’re coming for ya! Galaxy’s Edge will have a new restaurant serving plated dishes — Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo — plus a sandwich stand (Ronto Roasters), a snack stall (Kat Saka’s Kettle), a drink stand (Milk Stand), and a bar (Oga’s Cantina). All this is to say: you can enjoy new food and new restaurants without knowing what the Death Star is.

We say get excited about the culinary opportunities here — even the ones with a Star Wars backstory that you just don’t even need to know about. Grab a bag of Outpost Mix with its sweet and savory popcorn, sip on some Blue Milk, and peruse the menu of Smoked Kaadu Ribs and Ithorian Loaf. Sure the names might be straight outta Batuu, but good (or interesting, anyway) food is good food.

We want to ride all the rides.

Will Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance make more sense (and perhaps elicit more excitement) for those familiar with Star Wars? Maybe. But a fun, engaging attraction is entertaining at its core, exciting to ride no matter the story. You won’t want to miss out on these new rides. Smugglers Run transforms riders into pilots of a starship flying through space at high speed, while Rise of the Resistance (opening for Galaxy’s Edge’s phase two) incorporates multiple ride technologies into one epic experience.

No backstory needed to enjoy a cool ride! Just get on board, and prepare to be part of history-making attractions!

Enjoying Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is not reserved for those well-versed in all aspects of the franchise’s universe. A new land to explore ignites the adventurous spirit in all of us — even if we don’t know our Solo from our Skywalker.

Now, are we gonna say that you won’t maybe enjoy it even MORE if you DO check out our Star Wars 101 before you go? No…knowing more about the backstory is always going to enrich your experience. But that’s up to you. We’re pretty sure you can still have a blast even if you aren’t sure WHICH Side you’re on.
