What’s It Like to Be Chosen as a Cast Member for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge?
The Orange County Register has reported that 1,400 Disneyland Cast Members have been selected to work in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge as preparations move forward for the land’s May 31, 2019 opening.
So, what are the emotions for those selected? According to the OC Register, “Disneyland employees wept tears of joy and whooped cheers of excitement” when they were informed they would be part of the inaugural team.
The moves of these Cast Members into Galaxy’s Edge will, of course, necessitate the need for Disneyland Resort to hire 1,400 new workers in the areas of attractions, food and beverage, retail, entertainment, and custodial. (Disneyland Resort employs 30,000 Cast Members.)
The Orange Counter Register shared the following quote: “We give them an overview of the story of the land, but we’re encouraging them to create their own identities and personas,” said Imagineering managing story editor Margaret Kerrison. “All the cast are local Batuuans. They live outside of Black Spire Outpost. They’re commuting to work. They’re getting into their shuttle and they’re going into Black Spire Outpost to do their work.”
The Cast will be storytellers in their own right, with opinions about what is going on at Black Spire Outpost. But keep in mind: when you speak to a Batuuan, they may be loyal to the First Order or sympathetic to the Resistance!
Experiential-training will be part of the transfer. And here is one more intriguing thought: “They’re being taught there’s bosses in Batuu,” [Kappy] Thorsen [Galaxy’s Edge general manager] said. “Do not cross them. This is not Fantasyland. This is not It’s a Small World. Everybody’s not singing and smiling necessarily. You’ve got to be careful. You don’t know what’s around the corner.”
