First Look and Review: Disneyland’s Tangaroa Terrace Reopens With A New Menu — AND Dole Whip!

We said goodbye to Tangaroa Terrace as we knew it last summer, and now we are ready to greet the newly refurbished location — there’s a new name, new decor, a new coffee window, and best of all — a NEW DOLE WHIP WINDOW!

Welcome Back Tangaroa Terrace!

Check out that new name! It’s subtle, so don’t worry if you missed it! The formal, new name of this popular spot at Disneyland Hotel is Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill. Come along on a tour of all the new things we found!

When Tangaroa Terrace closed we were promised an updated patio and new outdoor bar. There are new tables, seating, lanterns, and more in the area.

In addition to tables and chairs there are some more comfy seating options.

While you are enjoying the outdoor bar and patio you can sip your morning coffee….

…or who needs coffee when you can have DOLE WHIP! You can have your Dole Whip as a traditional soft serve, or as a Dole Whip Float (with or without rum). If you prefer other indulgences, there are some Specialty Cocktails, Assorted Spirits, Draft and Bottled Beers, or Wine here as well. Note that our receipt here was from Trader Sam’s, so the walk-up window Tiki cocktails, etc are probably the same as what you’ll find at Trader Sam’s next door.

DOLE WHIP!!! Do we need to say anything else here? If we do — check out this video!

Now, on to more of the newly refurbished location! When Tangaroa Terrace closed for refurbishment we were promised light fixtures made of colorful fishing floats and netting, a tropical mural, and bamboo accents. We’d say there’s a new tropical mural!

We also spot the bamboo accents!

And those fishing floats and netting!

What a fun, colorful addition!

There’s an assortment of seating from bar style along the window to tables and benches.

Can you beat the view of the Disneyland Hotel pool, palm trees and sun?

There’s also a grab-and-go marketplace offering snacks, fruit, bottled drinks, some cereal and baked goods.

First Look at Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill Menu

The new Tangaroa Terrace Lunch and Dinner menu has some familiar items, some new, and some that have left the menu. You’ll find the Hawaiian Cheeseburger, Tangaroa Salad, Pu Pu Platter, Pork Gyoza, Sweet-and-Spicy Wings, Panko-Crusted Long Beans, and the same kids’ menu items here.

Additions to the menu are the Chili Garlic Edamame, Kalua-style Poutine, Lentil Garden Bowl, Shipwreck Nachos, and Fried Spam Musubi (which at first glance reminds us of the Musubi Halloweentime special at Bengal Barbecue). Sadly, if you were a fan of the Fried Spring Rolls, Shrimp Tacos, Poke Bowl, Chicken Teriyaki Bowl, Island Hot Dog, or Rongo Salad, those items are no longer on the menu at this time.

Just like the lunch and dinner menu, the breakfast menu has a few changes as well. You’ll still find the Breakfast Platter here. Additions are the Breakfast Sandwich (which replaces the Breakfast Wrap) Tangaroa Brick Toast (looks a lot like Tonga Toast to us!), Acai Chia Breakfast Bowl, and the Pineapple Upside-Down Pancakes.

The Kids’ menu sees the Mickey Waffles replaced with the Pineapple Upside-Down Pancakes.

Since we were there on opening morning, we tried out the Tangaroa Toast. This is Brick Toast stuffed with Bananas Foster, Whipped Cream, and Toasted Coconut. Sounds and looks yummy!

It was indeed delicious, but fragile! Once we dug in, we got about three solid bites before the whole thing turned to mush. The maple bacon was amazing. And there’s TONS of food for the price — definitely a shareable option.

We truly enjoyed exploring this refurbished location and are looking forward to more meals, and Dole Whips, here in the future! In fact, we’ll be back VERY soon with a full review of the lunch and dinner menus!
