We’re Ringing in the Lunar New Year at Disney California Adventure!
We’re at Disney California Adventure ringing in the Lunar New Year!
From now through February 17, 2019 guests are invited to welcome the Year of the Pig with special entertainment, Disney characters in their Lunar New Year costumes, Asian cuisine, and more.
We — along with our Dining in Disneyland Correspondent, Heather Sievers (@diningindisney) — are here to experience it all!
So, grab a Guide Map and join us!
And we’re starting with…
Lunar New Year Festival Marketplaces
Four Lunar New Year Marketplaces are serving what Disney calls “Asian cuisine with a Disney twist!”
Something new to note this year: even though there are four booths, you will be able to order any of the Marketplace items from any of the booths! (So, if you notice a long line at a booth serving an item you’re interested in, just stop by another Marketplace to save a little time, now that you’re in the know!)
Prosperity Bao & Buns
First up: Prosperity Bao & Buns!
The bao in Prosperity Bao & Buns is the Char Siu Pork Bao.
Chinese BBQ pork is wrapped with plenty of pickled red onions and jalapeno for some kick.
This is also where you’ll find the Mickey Chinese Hot Dog Bun!
It’s a fun and savory snack that’s reminiscent of a bagel dog.
The Mango Pineapple Pastry is a very good light and flaky pastry with sweetness from both the sugar crystals and the tropical flavors inside.
Lucky 8 Lantern
It’s “all about rice” for the two savory dishes at Lucky 8 Lantern.
The Crispy Shrimp Fried Rice with garlic, bacon, and edamame is a terrific savory option, especially for the seafood lovers!
The Stir-Fried Vegetables & Pineapple with soy protein and crunchy chow main noodles sits atop a bed of fluffy white rice.
And those who enjoy the distinct flavor of green tea will get a kick out of the Mandarin Orange-Green Tea Tart.
You’ll find Lucky Buddha Beer here!
Vietnamese Iced Coffee is also served.
Longevity Noodle Co.
Noodle fans can’t miss Longevity Noodle Co.!
Pan-fried Wheat Noodles are served with chicken meatballs, cabbage salad, and an apple-ginger sauce.
The Vegetable Egg Roll served over chilled sesame garlic noodles with cilantro-cashew sauce and toasted peanuts is a refreshing vegetarian option.
Egg Tarts are the dessert option here.
And the Orchid Spritz is sparkling SmartWater with Orchid Syrup garnished with rose popping pearls a beautiful and fresh edible orchid!
Red Dragon Spice Traders
Red Dragon Spice Traders is for the heat seekers out there!
Firecracker Three Cup Chicken with steamed rice returns, only spicier this year… and quite possibly even better!
Steamed Short Rib Shumai with handmade dumplings is plated with spicy Korean sauce, a sriracha mayo, and cucumber salad, and it’s another standout at the Marketplaces!
The Purple Yam Macaron with crème fraiche is the sweet treat among the heat!
The non-alcoholic Raspberry Lychee Chia Tea is both beautiful and uniquely delicious, garnished with chia seeds, raspberry, and a mint spring.
The light-up Glow Blossom on top is available for an extra purchase for $5.50.
Sip and Savor Pass
Don’t forget! You might want to consider picking up the popular Sip & Savor Pass. It consists of a commemorative credential and 6 coupons redeemable for food and beverage offerings (excluding alcohol).
The Sip & Savor Pass is $39, including tax, and available for purchase at the Marketplaces, Festival Gifts, Elias & Co., Kingswell Camera Shop, and the Sip & Savor Cart.
Disneyland Annual Passholders can enjoy a reduced price along with a special Passholder lanyard and buttons (at participating marketplaces upon coupon redemption).
Paradise Garden Grill
In addition to the Lunar New Year Marketplaces, Paradise Garden Grill is serving a specialty menu.
Among the Lunar New Year items is a very unexpected Whole Fried Fish Meal for Two: a whole deep-fried tilapia is served with Citrus Chili Vinaigrette, House-made Soup, Steamed Rice, and Vegetables!
If that’s not exactly what you’re craving, a Pork Belly Bahn Mi is served on a crispy baguette.
A Vegan Orange Tempeh is complete with plenty of veggies… and some Mickey ears .
Mango Mousse is a mango-glazed passion fruit and mango compote with vanilla sponge cake.
And if you have the Sip & Savor Pass, take note! Paradise Garden Grill is also serving up smaller plates of some of the dishes that you can use the pass credits on. For instance, here is the full-size portion of the Korean Grilled Chicken.
And here is the Sip and Savor Pass coupon portion!
Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession
A highlight of the Lunar New Year celebration is the return of Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession.
Mulan and Mushu are your hosts for this parade which includes a Chinese dragon puppet, drummers, warriors and dancers for the festivities.
And since 2019 is, after all, the Year of the Pig, there is a special guest in the Procession. Actually, make that THREE special guests… the Three Little Pigs!
Of course, other friends join in the fun, too!
Additional entertainment includes live music by acts such as Melody of China at the Paradise Garden Bandstand. They are joined in performance by Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese folk dancers.
Be sure to check your schedule so you don’t miss a thing!
Disney Characters
Don’t forget to wish some favorite Disney pals a Happy Lunar New Year during the celebration!
Find Mickey, Minnie, Mulan, Mushu, and Pluto near Paradise Garden Grill.
Lucky Wishing Wall and Crafts
Where better to make a wish than at Disneyland Resort?
And right now in particular, the perfect location to do exactly that is the Lucky Wishing Wall in Disney California Adventure.
You’ll also find Arts and Crafts stations with crafts including Chinese calligraphy, paper lantern making, and face painting.
Merchandise
You can commemorate your time ringing in Lunar New Year with specialty merchandise, such as these beautiful Lunar New Year Minnie Ears!
And there’s more cute stuff where those came from…
We’re wishing you a very Happy Lunar New Year from Disney California Adventure!
Remember, the celebration goes on through February 17th! But, believe it or not, there’s even more to celebrate in Disneyland Resort this year! Find out more in our DFB YouTube Video!
