Is A Disney Springs Amphicar Ride Worth The Money?
We all know there are tons of unique and fun things to do at Walt Disney World — including these 36 Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do! — but among the most unique is taking a ride (and a float!) in an Amphicar!
There’s only one place in the World where you can ride in an Amphicar, and that’s adjacent to the BOATHOUSE in Disney Springs! These amphibious vehicles were purchased from private collections (and number only 400 on the planet!). But is the cruise worth the cost? Let’s take a look!
What makes the Amphicar so unique — and so cool! — is that visitors can actually take a captain-guided tour on the Sassagoula River with ample views of Disney Springs’ ever-evolving horizon.
Tours run from 10AM to 10PM every day, weather permitting, and cost $125 per car for a 20-minute tour. You’ll need to head to the BOATHOUSE’s BOATIQUE to reserve your Amphicar ride — and bring your receipt of $50 or more from the shop or the restaurant for a $25 reward toward your tour!
So what’ll you see on your 20-minute cruise? You’ll get a fish-eye view of the BOATHOUSE’s patio.
You’ll float on by Paddlefish!
You’ll see some panoramic views of Rainforest Cafe, World of Disney, and more!
Further along you’ll see the Aerophile and more from West Side. Keep your eyes peeled for passing Sassagoula River Cruises from Port Orleans Resort!
When your twenty minutes are up, you’ll return to the Amphicar Launch, having tried a truly unique Walt Disney World experience!
And the great news is that if you’re in central Florida, the Amphicar is waiting for you — no park tickets necessary — making this a great non-park-day activity for the whole family (cars hold 3-4 passengers, max). Plus, you know, it’s a great excuse to eat this as well…
Is an Amphicar Tour Worth the Money?
Well, as always that’s going to be up to you to determine for your family. On my visit, I took the amphicar tour because I thought my Dad and my son (5 years old) would really enjoy it. As it turned out, my Dad did enjoy it, but my son was asking to play a game on his iPad halfway through the cruise (insert eyeroll here).
I think for me, the amphicar tour wouldn’t be worth the $100-$125 to take again. It’s a fun novelty, but I’d say the price would have to come down significantly — or you’d need to share the cost with another person — to make it anywhere close to worth the price.
That said, it could make for some fun engagement photos or wedding photos, so I’d say save this for a celebration — or for the true car enthusiast in your life!
