Review: Mary Poppins-Inspired Treats (and a Souvenir Spoon!!) at Disneyland’s Jolly Holiday Bakery
“Ain’t it a glorious day,” Disney friends? Mary Poppins Returns is opening soon, and Disneyland Resort’s Jolly Holiday Bakery has two sweet Poppins-inspired treats (plus a souvenir spoon!).
Jolly Holiday has a special connection to Mary Poppins. The name of the Bakery is echoed in the song Jolly Holiday from the original Mary Poppins in which Mary and Bert cheerfully pay each other lots of sweet compliments. And you’ll want to do the same for the Bakery after you check out these sweet treats!
Our Disneyland correspondent Heather Sievers (cheerio, @DiningInDisney!) found Mary Poppins Chocolate Cake and Mary Poppins Trifle in the dessert case — along with the option to purchase a souvenir Mary Poppins spoon! Yes, please!
The treats are, of course, designed to promote Disney’s latest (and highly anticipated!) live-action movie, but as with all Jolly Holiday treats, the emphasis is on quality. Heather says these are both as tasty as they are cute!
The Chocolate Cake comes with a sweet little daisy topper and a bright red cherry to mimic the design of Mary’s hat.
The miniature two-layer cake is coated in rich chocolate ganache. Chocolate fans rejoice!
If you prefer buttercream and think frosting is the best part of a cake, you might be disappointed to discover that the only frosting in sight here is a small amount of vanilla buttercream in the center of the cake. It doesn’t add much flavor, but the hit of sweetness is appreciated.
Overall this is a tasty chocolate cake with the focus on the chocolate and on the clean appearance.
The Mary Poppins Trifle is notably more complex, with several components working together to create the classic English dessert.
The Mary Poppins Trifle layers pound cake, mixed berries, raspberry jam, pastry cream, and vanilla bean chantilly. The topper is a white chocolate Mary Poppins silhouette.
The flavors of the trifle all work. Classic combinations of berries, cake, and cream are simple and satisfying. It’s practically perfect in every way. (Yeah, we went there.)
Now about that souvenir spoon! This iconic umbrella design is $7.99 with the purchase of anything else at the Bakery, and for that price, this limited time offering is totally worth it! The spoon is metal and high quality — perfect stocking stuffer!
Oh, it’s a jolly holiday, indeed! Get yourself to Disneyland’s Main Street, U.S.A., and indulge!
