14 Disney Pictures That Wowed Us This Year!
It should come as no surprise to you that the DFB team loves photography. We take thousands of photos every year, and we honestly relish every one. So generating a list of the DFB’s Favorite Pictures This Year was an impossible task. But we buckled down and found a few we wanted to share with you once more!
Join us as we share fourteen of our favorite pics from this year!
Giant Mickey Birthday Krispy — Magic Kingdom
We had a blast celebrating Mickey’s 90th birthday in November, and you know that all those specialty eats had us pretty excited. But when we saw the size of the Giant Mickey Birthday Krispy we knew it needed lots of photographic love. We like how this picture captures the breadth of this huge krispy treat — not an easy feat in a World of oversized, fantastical things!
Plus there’s lovely sunlight bouncing off that smooth chocolate. Love!
All-American Sundae — Main Street Plaza Ice Cream Parlor
This photo is all about the close-up details that make us want to dig in! The combination of peanut butter and chocolate is always a winner for us, but melty peanut butter and hot fudge + peanut butter and chocolate chips? Please! That shocking red cherry is a great contrast, too.
Bread Service — Sanaa, Animal Kingdom Lodge
When AJ dined at Sanaa earlier this year, she was lucky enough to be joined by a feathered friend — and we all loved the resulting picture! Not only does the photo capture our favorite Sanaa food item — Bread Service! — but the crane is so perfectly posed that it looks like we planned this!
We didn’t plan it, but we sure do love it!
Mango and Strawberry Sorbet — L’Artisans des Glaces, Epcot’s World Showcase
You know those vacation shots that return you precisely to the moment you took the photo? You can feel the heat, hear the sounds, taste the sorbet? That’s this picture for us. That melting Mango and Strawberry Sorbet is a dead giveaway that it was a hot day in Epcot’s France, and we love a food memory that also serves as a place memory.
Also: yum.
Gingerbread Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich — Schmoozie’s, California Adventure
Disneyland Resort is fully in the holiday spirit in 2018, and the parks have the snacks to prove it! We loved this Gingerbread Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich so much! From the gingerbread man chocolate piece on top to the crushed gingersnaps stuck into that cinnamon brown sugar ice cream, it was visually interesting and delicious!
Bacon Mac and Cheese Fries — Casey’s Corner, Magic Kingdom
Hellooooo, gorgeous! Casey’s Corner was on it’s A-game this year, with hot dogs and French fries loaded with tons of delicious stuff — including the 12 Days of Christmas Dogs! And a Poutine Dog! And (finally!) a Vegan Slaw Dog! (Yeah, Casey’s was busy in 2018!) One of our favorite additions were the Bacon Mac and Cheese Fries because #carboverload. Doesn’t this picture make you want to head straight to Main Street, U.S.A.?!
Tink’s Pixie Dusted Cone — Storybook Treats, Magic Kingdom
One of our favorite things about Disney food this year was the number of Instagram-able treats! Tink’s Pixie Dusted Cone was one of our favorites! The key lime Dole whip first appeared in the Peter Pan Float (which we also loved!). But Tink’s treat was a whole new level! Fluffy green cotton candy encircled a green cone, and it was topped off with a pair of fairy wings! Yeah, this was tasty, but it was also Like-able!
Rose Gold Cupcake — Sunshine Seasons, Epcot’s Future World
The year started off with a bang when we broke the news that the Rose Gold Cupcake that sparked a thousand rose gold cupcakes (and other treats!) was spotted. This beauty was created by the dessert geniuses at Sunshine Seasons, and it was love at first bite. How could it go wrong with all. that. frosting?
Steak Frites — Wine Bar George, Disney Springs
Disney Springs was a rush of growth again in 2018. Terralina Crafted Italian and Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill opened to fanfare with celebrity chefs and delicious eats. But one of the most hotly anticipated openings was Florida’s first and only master sommelier-owned Wine Bar George. Unsurprisingly, one of our favorite dishes at Wine Bar George was Steak Frites. This picture brings us right back to those crispy fries, flavorful steak, and killer caramelized onion aioli.
Toy Story Land — Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Okay, so this one isn’t a food pic, but how can we survey the year in photos without paying homage to Toy Story Land and its epic design? Here Jessie uses a lasso of Christmas lights to wrangle Rex, whose teetering on the top of a tower of Jenga blocks. It’s so much cuteness and cleverness in one photo. Take us baaaaack!
But our favorite detail might just be Andy’s shoe print, permanently printed onto the walkway of the new land. Who thinks of this stuff?! We loved it!
We went live from Toy Story Land to bring you all the colorful, thoughtful details — including this full tour from our DFB YouTube channel. It’s not, you know, expressly a photograph, but something this grand deserves video.
Jack Jack Cookie Num Num — Jack-Jack Cookie Num Nums, Pixar Pier
Oh, Pixar Pier: you were ushered in by the totally incredible Pixar Fest that brought dozens of Pixar-themed eats and drinks to the parks of Disneyland Resort. And when Pixar Pier finally opened, Jack-Jack Cookie Num Nums was just one of several cool (and tasty) snack spots we had to check out. Jack Jack sells cookies — fabulously thick cookies full of chocolate chunks. And @diningindisney‘s perfect Incredibles skirt was an amazing backdrop for this one!
Flight of Passage — Animal Kingdom’s Pandora
Okay, now this picture we love because of the awesome story behind it — and because it’s a sight we honestly thought we’d never see! Night one of Animal Kingdom After Hours was tons of fun, with non-existent lines, lots of fun after dark lighting and effects, and five-minute wait times for ev.er.y.thing. Yup: that includes Flight of Passage. Hence this shot, in which we were the only ones in the chamber! What?!
Milkshakes — Beaches and Cream, Yacht and Beach Club Resort
Our final shot is an ode to all things over-the-top in Disney food: Milkshakes topped with awesomeness at Beaches & Cream! These babies are super fun. Chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry milkshakes are topped with full size desserts like cupcakes and brownies. The shakes are, of course, delicious! But they’re also Instagram-able, share-able, and once-in-a-lifetime treats… which is one of the things we love most about Disney food! (Oh, and you get to keep the cup!)
We hope that you enjoy our food pics as much as we enjoy bringing them to you!
