News and Review! Beignet Burger Debuts at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort, French Quarter

You love beignets? You love burgers? This might be right up your alley!

New Beignet Burger at Sassagoula

Debuting today at Port Orleans French Quarter’s Sassagoula Floatworks food court in Disney World is a sweet-meets-savory entree that seems like the perfect combo: the Beignet Burger.

Beignet Burger menu

This  starts with the house made beignet bun and piles on a freshly cooked burger, American cheese, bacon jam, shredded lettuce, pickled onions, and homemade pickles.

The bun is thicker and more substantial than a standard beignet, so they’re not just using one of the regular beignets for this one.

Inside the beignet burger

So — here are my thoughts: this burger is a great concept. I love the sweet/savory idea, which has been done a few times before at Disney (one example is the cinnamon bun burger on the All Star Movies secret menu). But the beignet bun was tough and difficult to bite through, which seemed odd (beignets are supposed to be soft — they’re similar to donuts). Maybe it was overcooked.

In this case, I liked that the burger was freshly made when I ordered it (though it was not made *to* order — I couldn’t specify doneness level, so it was a little overcooked for me as is the case with most Disney counter service burgers). But personally I would have preferred the burger without the lettuce, tomato, pickled onions, and pickles. I felt that to make the beignet’s sweetness stand out, there needed to be less going on in the burger overall. As-is, it’s too busy and just seems to be a regular burger with a slightly tougher bun and powdered sugar on top.

So, while I wanted to love it, I think I would modify it a bit for myself on the next go-round for sure. But that jambalaya and praline are still incredible over at Sassagoula, so I’d definitely recommend those!
