According to TIME magazine, in the eight years since World Central Kitchen was founded, hot meals have been served “to millions in disaster zones and difficult situations.” Among these, Chef Andrés with World Central Kitchen served over 3.5 million meals in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria. And, more recently, World Central Kitchen has been feeding victims of the wildfires in California. This included a Thanksgiving dinner hosted with Guy Fieri and Tyler Florence feeding 15,000 survivors.

Chef Andrés was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize by Representative John Delaney of Maryland. The Washington Post presented this quote from the Representative: “Because of Mr. Andrés’s work, millions of people have been fed. This is the most basic human need and Mr. Andrés has proven to be world-class in this essential humanitarian field. With an incredible spirit and an innovative mind, Mr. Andrés is solving one of the world’s ancient problems and supplying world leaders with a new road map to provide more effective disaster relief in the future.”

Previously, Chef Andrés has been the recipient of the James Beard Foundation’s Humanitarian of the Year award and the 2015 National Humanities Medal from the National Endowment of Humanities.
