Review! NEW Menu at Flo’s V8 Cafe in Disney California Adventure!

Flo’s V8 Cafe is a quick service location in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Park, and we’ve visited many times to enjoy the American style, homey offerings. We loved the Roast Beef Sandwich Flo was serving up on her lunch and dinner menu, and we were pretty stoked when Flo started serving breakfast again!

But that menu of comfort foods changed recently, and we had to dig in to see if it would remain as satisfying as ever. The new menu features lots of cleverly named dishes, including the Fin-tastic Tuna Sandwich and the Ka-Cheeseburger (you know — like “Ka-chow”!).

For younger diners, there’s the Jr. Pit Crew Menu with a Micro Burger and Chicken Fenders (ha!). There’s also some beer and wine up on that menu board.

We had to try Flo’s Famous Fried Chicken — especially since Disneyland Resort serves up famed fried chicken over at Plaza Inn. This version is offered with mashed potatoes and gravy and broccoli and cauliflower.

The sides are totally hum-drum; nothing exciting here, and those veggies were not well seasoned or tasty.

The chicken looks great, though it’s fried a little unevenly.

And inside? Dry. As. A. Bone. Skip this one, folks. The walk over the Plaza Inn (if you have a park-hopper) is well worth it because this fried chicken isn’t worth it.

We were hoping for something a little more palatable with Fillmore’s Pot Pie — a vegetarian option. (Fillmore is known to put special ingredients in his fuel mix, maybe he’ll find something interesting to put into his pot pies?)

The crust is beautifully baked and has a 60s-style flower stamped into the top. Totally Fillmore, man.

Inside the pot pie is creamy sweet corn and potato with chiles and cheddar cheese. The flavor is good on this one!

We do appreciate the addition of chiles for a unique flavor and a tiny bit of spice. But honestly, I prefer a more traditional pot pie, so I won’t get this one again.

Thankfully our next entree was a hit: Ramone’s Low & Slow Club. It hits all the turkey club notes: turkey breast, crispy bacon, avocado-bacon mayo, lettuce, and tomato on toasted white bread. The avocado-bacon mayo is an awesome addition!

The steak fries that come with this sandwich are great, and the whole thing just works to satisfy a sandwich craving. This was the best thing we tried on our visit.

The Ka-Cheeseburger is a 1/3 pound Angus beef burger with cheddar cheese, 1000 island dressing, and caramelized onions on a sesame seed bun. It’s a fine sounding burger but doesn’t wow.

Flo’s also offering a Blue Plate Special, which we didn’t try on our visit. The online menu describes it as having house-made Coca-Cola barbecue sauce and being served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies — the same sides as Flo’s Famous Fried Chicken. At present, the Blue Plate Special is actually the ribs platter from the old Flo’s menu, which was a family favorite, so it would be great if this stuck around. Unfortunately, we doubt that it will.

We did opt to try one of the desserts. The Seasonal Strawberry Pie is filled with pastry cream and topped with fresh strawberries. The whole thing is coated with strawberry glaze and garnished with caramelized puffed rice.

This was a sweet way to finish our meal, and we appreciated the freshness of the berries and the slight crunch from the puffed rice. We loved this sweet treat when it was served at California Adventure Food and Wine, so we’re happy it found a permanent home.

Overall, Flo’s new menu will fill your tank, but it’s not super unleaded, if you know what we mean. Hopefully they’ll work out some kinks in the hose and get the entrees flowing a little better in the future. It’s super disappointing that a restaurant that was a guaranteed champion is bringing up the rear.
